50 Amp Cord Holder

I borrowed this idea from either this forum or another, not sure. But, it was a great idea and the price was right! The huge 50 amp cord was a PITA to store! This makes winding/storing a breeze. Purchased at Harbor Frieght for about $11. Get the 20% coupon.

YUP worth every $$$. It's not only the soft cord that counts it's the amount of copper strands in each wire that makes it more flexible.

The 50 amp cord that came with my RV is a pain (literally) to try to coil in cold weather due to the plastic covering. I actually pulled something while wrestling the dang thing on a cold morning in Colorado last fall, so I ordered this from Amazon: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B01K35FZXI/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o00_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1

Reviewers say it has a "rubber" covering that remains fairly flexible in the cold. It was relatively cheap at $99 but only 25 ft long vs. the 32 ft I have now, which I don't see as a problem.

I'll try to follow up on this next month once I've had the opportunity to coil it in 30 degree weather.

I did just this earlier this year and what a difference! It is one of the best mods I have ever done to the RV.

I bought mine off of Ebay; it was the best price I could find anywhere and it was actually made in the US.

Cummins,

Where did you get the flexible 50 Amp cable from?. The stuff i've seen at HD and Lowes is just as stiff as most other RV cords.

Thanks
Ron W.

Most in the states donโ€™t camp in -37 degree weather just SOW cable is a VAST improvement in temps into the single digits. The OEM cables with plastic jackets are hard to coil in 70 degree heat, let alone if it is anywhere near freezing.

Mine came from a 50A temp power box cord. As long as you follow the spec shown in the pic it will be flexible. Some Electrical Wholesale locations will sell the cord or do a Google search.

Nice idea but it requires a cord with the flexible shell. My current cord gets very stiff when cold and is difficult to coil for storage.

I did that for both electric and water and mounted them to a two drawer cabinet. I don't actually use my 50 amp cord much as I use a lighter weight 30 with the marinco end on it. Most of our state parks don't offer 50 amp and since i dont have 2 A/C's yet I can get by

Not a a bad idea, but unless one end is connected permanently you'll have unwind the whole shebang to hook up.

I use an old clothes basket and only unwind as much as I need and leave the rest of it in the basket. There's enough cord unwound that I can easily slide it under the trailer to get the basket out of the rain.
