I am fairly new in the World of 5th Wheels. I have never Towed one. The one DW and I are fulltiming in was delivered to us. I am getting the 5th Wheel Hitch installed in my Truck Monday Morning in Preparation for Traveling in a Month or so. What Part of the Hitch is the Pin Box and What Part is the Pin? I am getting a Lubricating Disc for the Hitch. I was advised to also grease the Pin but I do not know where it is. Thanks in advance.
God Bless!

I just put a light coat of grease on the jaws of the hitch where they meet the pin. I use white lithium but any grease will do.

I don't think what kind of grease to use matters much. Use what you want. It will need to be applied again in one or two thousand miles, or when the pin/jaws start squeaking.
I use wheel bearing grease. but just because that is what I had a tub of, at the time.

Hitching/unhitching a 5er is pretty easy but if you miss/skip a step or loose focus things can get ugly in a hurry and really ruin your day.

Ever see a truck running down the road with bed rails crunched and wonder why?

As suggested have someone walk you through it or sit down and watch some Youtube videos.

You really should have whoever installs the hitch in the truck walk you through hitching up and unhitching a fiver. Either using one they have at their shop or come out and use yours.

They should include all safety procedures about setting chocks, raising and lowering stabilizers, and use of the landing gear. There is nothing really difficult, but some of it (including the order of operations) is not intuitive.

Make up a pair of checklists and follow them to the letter the first few times.

Neither the pin box or pin is part of the truck hitch. The pin box is located on the front of the trailer and extends from under the front overhang. Assuming it doesn't have a cover it will be a black steel box-shaped item with a sloping top to the front of it. At the very front of the pin box on the underside is the pin that will connect to the hitch in the truck. The pin has a necked down, smaller diameter section and this is what you want to make sure is engaged in your hitch locking mechanism.
If you're not familiar with hitching/unhitching and towing a 5th wheel i'd suggest you look online for some information on these areas. Might try YouTube as there's likely videos showing the basics. Also, there may be someone around where you're at that could help you.

The hitch is mounted in the bed of the tow vehicle. The pin box is the component that sticks out of the front of the 5er and connects with the hitch. The pin is the grooved cylinder that is permanently affixed to the bottom side of the pin box that actually mates into the hitch. Once the hitch jaws are closed around the pin, the two vehicles are connected together.

Hope this answers your questions.

The pin box is what hangs down under your FW over hang. The pin is the round piece of steel hanging down from the pin box, that your hitch jaws will circle.

I use a teflon trailer ball grease on mine, due to the fact that dirt is not attracted as much as just plain grease.
