Dexter 12 x 2 are undersized for a 7 k axle We wore ours down quick, upgraded to 8k axles with 12/1/4 x 3/3/8 forward self adjusting. Tire wear and brake power much improved. Self adjusting doesnt work that well, I can still get turns onthe wheel

I agree with all the above who said to replace the entire backing plate... shoes, magnets, springs, everything... just make sure you get 2 right side, and 2 left side.. SO MUCH EASIER and better to do it this way

2007 Silverbacks use 5200#, 6000# or 7000# axles....model dependent
Which if Dexter use the same 12" x 2" shoes

Complete assemblies are easiest and cheaper Vs individual components

Which model is yours?
Check axle tube for sticker/data as to which axle

Also check for MFG data info Inside the trailer...typically attached to inside of a cabinet door

Crawl under the rig and there should be a sticker on the axle tube that identifies the mfr, model #, load rating etc. of the axle. Use that to look up brake info on etrailer. Most trailers, unless really large or small, have 12x2 brakes.

I did brakes on my Terry in 2017 and got 4 self-adjusting brake assemblies, new drums, bearing and seals for $400 with free shipping. Speaking of which, be aure to get self adjusting!
