Brand new 5th wheel-- blowout from the factory to the dealer

Yes folks, here we witnessed a brand new 5th wheel trailer that couldn't get from the factory to the dealer without a tire blowout....so sad. No it's not ours, I just witnessed this while on the road ourselves......

I had to do a detailed write up. Here it is with pics if you're interested.

clicky here

Please take the time to read it all and view all the pictures before commenting. The only real thing I did not "get" was how these 15" tires achieved their "E" rating. I thought you needed a 16" tire to get to "E" ratings.

Enjoy.

If LT tires had the same blow out issues as the ST tires, they'd be recalled in an instant. Remember the Firestone recall? But since they are on trailers no one cares how much they fail.

I've seen newly delivered trailers with blow out damage. Even saw a spare that had blown out while mounted on the rear bumper. And I've heard of a few who had spares blow while mounted under the trailer as most of ours are. How do you explain a spare blowing up? A spare that has never touched the pavement? My only answer is Chinese made junk.

I still don't understand why anyone would have an ST tire. A tire that is temperamental about how fast it is towed or how much air is in it, one that is just waiting to blow even when mounted as a spare.

I've never had ST tires on either of my trailers and have yet to have a tire related issue. Unless, of course, I just jinxed myself. lol

He could have easily picked up a nail in the tire, lost pressure, be it slowly or fast.If it isn't noticed in time the tire will blow from a build up of heat, doesn't matter what brand.

He isn't assuming a lot. Chinese tires are junk as is most of the stuff they sell us...it hard to find stuff made in the USA.

iPads, iPhones, Xbox are made in China. China puts out a lot of good stuff.

ALL trailer tires are made in China. Some are OK, many are not. A lot of people pull the tires off as soon as they get their rig home and replace them with Maxxis or Goodyear.

Maybe it was damaged when it was installed on the rim or is was just one of those "rejects" that did not get caught by an inspector. I mean, every now and then someone gets a lemon. Maybe it was just a bad tire.

Do you suppose that is why it failed?

Agree 100%. A friend of mine who used to own a tire and oil type shop told me once that tires will fail the most early on, he was giving we this advice when I was asking about when to get new tires, before or after a trip.

Blow out on new rig:(
While this should (all things be equal) not have happened on a new rig / tire, it all comes down to trailer mfgs. making a profit:( at the expense of the RV owner. In my opinion, RV owners should be given the option of what brand of tires, size, ply, rating etc. they want on their new RV. I am willing to pay the difference in price between the original tires and the tires of my choice. I recently bought a new Heartland Big Horn 5th. wheel but before we sealed the deal, I asked the salesman about the tires on the RV, Towmasters. He said he really didn't know much about them:( I then told him that I would not buy the 5th. wheel unless the tires were replaced with my choice of tire. He said "not a problem", they will do it at the Heartland factory:) Everybody won on the deal:)
