Can 2nd AC unit be added to bedroom?

We are looking to purchase a used Fifth Wheel. Its a 2005 Open Road.

We need an AC installed in the bedroom.

There is a 14 inch opening with a Fantastic fan already there.

There is no placard that states it's wired for an AC unit.

We pulled the fan down and only saw wiring for the fan..nothing heavy duty like you would think it would be for AC.

The price is good, so we don't mind spending the money if the second ac is possible.

It is a 50 amp coach.
There is no separate breaker for a 2nd AC, but there is a spot to add a breaker.

My question, is Do you think it's possible. Someone told the owner if it had a 14 inch opening, then it would be strong enough to add a second air and it would be possible.

Our unit came without 2nd AC. We knew we needed 2nd unit and ordered the one that matched the rear unit. It is a perfect setup. I bet yours is setup the same way. Best of luck

Was in the exact situation. I removed the vent, carefully fished wires to the breaker box, installed an extra breaker on the opposite side of current a/c, then bought an a/c unit and installed it. Worked out great

When you pulled the fan down did you see any extra 2x4 bracing around the edges of the 14" opening? Some manufactures will add extra support in that area to help support the added weight of the AC unit.

How long is it? Longer units are more likely to be wired for the second AC, due to the possibly increased need for cooling.

look for wire not hooked up in breaker panel...that would tell you if there is an extra wire ran up for 2nd AC possibly

Being a 50 amp rig it is likely the wiring is there. But no way to know for sure without searching for the wiring. Is there a rectangular cover plate, like an electrical cover plate, in the ceiling near the vent opening? If so, pull that cover and see what wiring is behind it. Likely you will find the typical 3 wires (hot, neutral, ground) for the A/C connection. Then you would have to locate the other end of those wires in the electrical distribution center (breaker panel).

It's an Open Road by Pilgrim. They are no longer in business. It's not the Highland Ridge Open Range.

If it's 50 amp, it's likely wired for the 2nd A/C. Might have to remove the vent molding to see if the frame and wiring are already there. I agree, though, call the mfr with the VIN.
