CAN YOU CLEAN A FLOJET WATER PUMP

I think there may be debris in my Flojet water pump because it keeps running and pumps very little water. There is no screen on this pump and all connections are tight. It is a Flojet Model #03526-144.
Could it also be the pressure switch? How is that determined? Has anyone done this?? If so how is it done? Any Help would be appreciated.

We are good. It is easy for any of us to get our mind twisted when we are trying to type what we are thinking.

Since the only dumb question is as unasked question, all of us are only trying to help someone else along the way.

Just curious, how would hair get into the fresh water tank/pump?
I wondered about that also and the post about pouring oil into a fresh water pump.

My bad. I read Flo Jet and read macerator.

You can take it apart and clean it, but, most likely you have a bad impeller. You will need to replace it to make it pump. After every use, you need to flush it with clean water to clear it. I will pour in a little oil in it and run it to lubricate the impeller. If you don't lube it, the blades of the impeller will stick and when you try to run it, it can and will pull the blades off the impeller.

These pumps need routine maintenance. The impeller starts losing vanes and hair builds up around the shaft. You need to take it apart and clean it on some some kind of schedule based on use. I do mine every other year. You can order a kit online or go to a West Marine if you are near water.

The part number for the vane is stamped on the metal part of the impeller. There are minor variations and you have to get the correct one. I can all but promise you you need a new impeller.

Let's not confuse OP
His FloJet is a fresh water pump and just like a Shurflo it is a diaphragm pump assembly..........not a macerator pump with an impeller

Thanks for the replies. I will take it apart today and try cleaning it.

First check for air leaks on suction side of pump. Diaphragm pumps will not prime when sucking air in

Dollars to donuts my bet is way too many perfectly good pumps are replaced by owners who assume it has to be the pump that's faulty when it's much more likely there's a leak somewhere in the trailer's plumbing system. Before assuming the pump itself has an issue disconnect it entirely from the trailer, stick the intake hose into a jug of water, and see if that resolves the problem ... if it does you've got a leak elsewhere in the trailer, if not it's the pump.

No inlet strainer so it could have debris from fresh water tank holding the pump internal check valve open.

Could also just be sucking air in on inlet side of pump. Leaky suction hose, loose clamp, loose/cracked fitting, cracked pump housing.

Pump is completely rebuildable.

Quite often just disassemble/clean--rinse/reassemble will resolve issue.

HERE is a service manual with description/exploded view/part numbers.

Very easy to work on.
