Cargo load

I'm a newbe to this forum. I ordered a Cougar SGS and I have a F150 eco boost, short bed, and max tow. I am concerned about the hitch weight. The trailer hitch weight is 1410. I am going to use a sidewinder and reese hitch to save weight. I saw a gentlemen with a red F150 from Vermont that looked like the same set up. Any thoughts?

What hitch do you have, any problem with clearing the cab? What was the dry weight of the trailer?

Do you have the HD payload package on your truck. I used a 2012 Ecoboost non-max tow without the HD payload package for two years without any issues or regrets whatsoever. I did install Roadmaster Stabilizers and set them to 70% increased payload before I ever hooked up. The Roadmasters improved both the loaded and non loaded handling. My pin weight is 100lbs. less than yours. My trailer weighs in at 7945lbs loaded.

Cancel your order. You'll be over GVW and RAWR. 1410 is the brochure weight. Add 150lbs for propane and batteries. Now throw another 250lbs in the front cargo holds plus in the front bedroom. Plus ad in more weight because no trailer is delivered at the brochure weight. And you'll be at the GVW and RAWR of the truck. And more than likely way over both.

And we haven't even talked about whats going in the truck. Passengers, 5th hitch, firewood, etc.

Totally agree - that's heavier than my 5er (and I wouldn't tow mine with a half ton, for any reason....)

beachbum5..think you screwed the pooch ordering the SGS if your gonna be pulling it with a short bed max tow only 150. Think it's to much 5er for your truck. We have an HD Ecoboost (see sig) with a 2272 load capacity & when looking at 5ers the sales lady busted her hump trying to sell us a SGS. Would a loved to have it, but DW & I knew it was to much even for our HD 150. We got it's cousin, the 26sab. Great match for both us 2 & the truck. We're within all our weight limits & with no add-ons.

Your cargo wt includes everything in the truck, your family, your gear, a 200# hitch, plus the loaded hitch wt.

I would be most concerned with the 4,050 RAWR, and max tire load.

You may be able to make this work, but at least check the tire max load.

Good luck,
Jerry

Staying within spec especially GRAWR and tire rating is tough to do without the MAX PAYLOAD package.

There are those that do it, but you need to get a base line of your F150 TV. Load it as you would for a camping trip. Then head for the scales, weigh each axle separately. Subtract the total of the two axles from the trucks GVWR and you have available payload. UNLESS that number is GREATER than subtracting the rear axle weight from the rear GAWR (Gross Axle Weight Rating).

FWIW, my Komfort has a GVW of 11,273 and a pin wt ratio of 16.6%. That gives me 1878 lbs on the pin at GVW, and that's all I want on my '02 Duramax. I simply can't imagine it on a 1/2 ton.

The dealers right, you are okay with 1410lbs. Problem is it won' be 1410lbs when you go camping. It'll be near 18-1900lbs. So that puts you at your RAWR and GVW. Who's going in the truck and what do you take with you. All those weights come off the trucks cargo weight rating. Ignore the tow rating for now. No one tows 11,300lbs with an F150. Payload is the number you need to be concerned with.

My cargo weight is 1825 lbs I am thinking about switching to fifth wheel with a hitch weight of 1270. I can tow 11,300 lbs. The dealer tells me it is alright with 1410, even the factory rep said those camper were made for F 150s.

I have a Cougar 276RLS. The empty weight on the sticker is 7180 lbs. The Cat scale weight is 8720 lbs. loaded for camping with 1/4 tank of fresh water and nothing in the holding tanks. The loaded pin weight is 1860 lbs. We are pretty frugal with what we take with us so I think that this is a fair representation. Although my 5er has these nice "half ton towable" stickers on it I would not want to try it. I tow with an F250.

Would adding helper springs and heavy duty shocks help handle the load.
