DISC BRAKES

Good morning everyone. I have another question. I have 2013 Heartland Landmark Mesa. Purchased it last Oct.
And slowly doing some mods to make it the way I want it.

Have you upgraded your 5ver with disc brakes?
Did you do the install yourself?
Which system did you choose?
Any other thoughts would be appreciated.
Thanks.

I did mine 5 1/2 years ago. I have 6k Dexter, 16", 8 lug so I used the 13" Kodiak kit, oiled bearings and the 1600 psi Carlisle pump cuz of the shape, that fit where I wanted it... On the side of the frame, under the steps. That spot is right behind the batteries and just ahead of the axles so everything has short hookups. I made up the hard lines lines and minimized the flexes. I had to do a little extra work to keep all four shocks. About $1750.in parts and I'd do it again in a flash! Craig

fordtrukguy, what a way to test the new system. Glad nothing happen.

I did call Titan when I got back and told them how I felt, and what happened...

also called Ron Russell, he used to own Performance Trailer Braking, and was employed at Titan at one time

I will add this...

Our very first trip after having the disc's installed, we were traveling down a local 2 lane.
At the last minute, I had an elder lady pull out directly in front of me from the retirement home, she panicked and stopped 3/4 of the way in the lane.

All I could do was stand on the brakes and hope I get slowed down enough for minor impact.

I stopped completely before reaching her.. Afterwards, I looked at my wife and all she did was smile and say "thank god" we had them installed...

It was a good feeling, it felt like I was being yanked backwards !

I absolutely love the disc brakes. Had Performance Trailer Braking do the install.

The each time I do the pull test I am reminded how much better the disc stops. With drums having the brakes applied manually I would always pull it forward a few inches. With Disc brakes the trailer doesnโ€™t move.

money well spent....that $500 for the install is good

The cost of the kits are around $1300 from 6k axles to around $1575 for up to 8k axles with the 7k being in between at around $1450 for tandems. I am thinking I will do the 8k axle upgrade as I do them and then go with the 8k tandem brakes from Performance Trailer Braking all of which will run around $3100 for the complete package. I would love to have the IS but just can't pull the trigger on that and brakes at a cost of around $5500. I can do the disc conversion and swap put the axles myself.

generally the installation will run between $500 - $1000.. Mine was $500... I had an authorized install center do mine, while a rep from Titan was there overseeing the whole project..

I like the idea, but the cost has kept me from it. My understanding is it can run from $2000 to $3000 depending on components and how much you do yourself. Having it all done I would imagine would be up around $3000 or over for a double axle rig, depending of course on axle/wheel sizes.

For my triple axle toyhauler it would be over $2000 if I did all the work myself.

Good morning everyone. Thanks for all the positive feedback. Just what I was looking to see. Disc brakes are so much better than drum brakes. My 2015 C had disc brakes. Any people that I talk to that have done the upgrade, say the same thing. A night/day difference.
I like the idea that they come to your house to do the install.
This upgrade will happen this spring or summer.
