Do you unhook for the night?

Iโ€™m curious, When you stop for the night at Walmart, Park etc do you unhook? With my fifth wheel I have to open a small bedroom slide with the dresser and a large slide with the kitchen table and theater seating. Both on the park side of the Coach.

What do you guys do? Do you stay hitched and deploy the jacks?

YES,it is possible. Especially if you have an inverter.

When we go out west we take 7 days to do it. We're not in s hurry. When we stop for the night I fuel up first with the 5er attached and then go to the campground where we will stay at for the night. The 5er doesn't get unhitched and the 3 slides are opened until it's time to go to bed.I just make sure the 5er is level. The bedroom slide remains open for the night. In the morning we get cleaned up, the wife make sandwiches for the road and we're off for another day of travelling. We can use the 5er without having to open the slides if we need to. It's a 2009 Cedar Creek. I always unplug from my truck for the night.

No, I'm not kidding, and nobody's answered. What does unhitching have to do with opening slides? If I get lucky maybe the poster will actually answer.
I think the person was just wishing they could skip opening the slides along with skipping the unhitching part.

I can use mine without opening the slide. A bit tight so if I can open the slide I will. If I was wedged in someplace and needed sleep, the slide could stay in. If it is level enough for sleep it is level enough for the slide to move IMO.

Never heard of this. An isolator? We have a Ford and only unplug the pigtail, the 7 pin.

Thanks Barney, I agree with you. And to unhook when gas is needed, although not preferred, is certainly doable. At times we donโ€™t know what we have until we get there. Iโ€™d rather unhook and get gas instead of going on down the road. And maybe have to unhook anyway. There are also times it seems like car owners just want to mess with us! Most are happy to oblige however.

Mondooker,
Take a look at my earlier post and you will see what trailer I have. There is also a picture of it in my signature.

No, hitching and unhitching are no big deal to me. Just takes a couple of minutes to do and if it makes the refuel easier then I do it. I have a Hensley hitch but have used and owned just about all the different style hitches out there over the years.

The main reason I stay hooked up is that I consider it insurance in case I need to move quickly for some reason or other. Either way, it is not something I loose sleep over.:B

Hey BarneyS, What Coach do you have that allows you so much access? Itโ€™s interesting when most do fifth wheel reviews they almost never shown with slides in. Knowing now there is no specific reason to unhook. I donโ€™t quite understand why someone would? If thereโ€™s someplace you need to go sure. But otherwise I donโ€™t see the reason for it.

Barney, Do you find the unhitch and re-hitch for gas a big deal? I know youโ€™d prefer not to, but is it that big a deal? And what hitch do you use?

Snip...

The reason for my post was that the OP asked about parking for an overnight stop, not an extended camp. I have been RVing for many years and most folks I know do not unhook when stopped for one night unless there are other reasons to do so as have already been mentioned in this thread. Our trailers floor plan lets us access all areas of the trailer and use all features with the slide all the way in. We travelled all over and rarely unhooked unless I wanted to get fuel at a particular location that was hard to get into with the trailer attached.
I am actually surprised at the number of you who do unhook almost every time you stop for a night.

Hey, you did a great job backing in too, both trailers, nice and straight! ๐Ÿ™‚

Jerry

Well i am good a backing but I can't take credit for it that time!!! I have backed up this combo probably 20' at the most.

It was a pull thru spot.

I wasn't trying to be deceiving about the MC trailer being still hooked. It just was part of the do you disconnect discussion.
