One of my dump valves has started leaking, just a drip for now . I have never had one of these apart, do you just take the 4 bolts out and slide the valve out and I would guess put new gaskets in. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks Rich

Well the valve has been replaced and put some water in tank to make sure there is no leaks. Not much room between grey tank and black tank for separation to put valve in, used ratchet strap to open and hold gap till the valve was in. Thanks for all of the info fellows. Rich

Replacing the gate valve is no big deal as long as you can actually get to the valve. On our fiver, the valves are located behing the cloroplast sheeting which would require removing the fasteners and dropping the cloroplast. Removing those sheets is not a big deal as you have gravity working in your favor. Putting them back up however is a completly different proposition.

If the valve is failing then replacing it is no big deal, along as the tank is flushed well first (I flushed mine about 10 times be removing my valve and I still got a poo shower.

When I thought my valve was failing, in turned out to be a baby wipe that was lodged into the valve seat. I removed the cloth wipe and all good since then.

Leave it alone and just put a twist on valve at the connection for your sewer hose. First thing I added after I got a poop shower the first time I dumped. I just leave it there and never take it off. I will never be without one.

Thanks for the info, dumped the tanks when I got home from camping and flushed them out. Will pull valve out in the morning and hopefully find seals so I can put it back together for camping this coming weekend.

The entire gate valve assembly is not much more expensive that the gasket kit. Get the assembly and look it over well before you disassemble the old unit It will be a snap.

Cost depends on the type of valve setup you have. Mine are the Valterra valves with built-in cables and they are about $70. Valve seal kits are about $5.00 ea.

You replace the gate seals if the gate valve is not scored. Otherwise, replace the valve assembly. Note of caution. DO NOT over tighten the four screws/nuts, it will distort the valve easily. Just snug them up. The nuts usually have built in locking nuts. Use lube on the seals. Easy job. rockin'

I changed a black water valve once - dump and flush is a great idea! I did that and then put an oil catch pan underneath as I took it apart. Make sure you have the right tools first! I fought mine for a bit and then cleaned myself up enough to go inside and get the right tools. Once I had the right tools, it was an easy job.
