EZ Lube and repacking the bearings

Tomorrow I'll be repacking the EZ Lube bearings on out her. I've packed wheel bearings before, but never with the EZ Lube type. It seems the the EZ Lube mechanism will be in the way to remove the castle nut? does anyone know of a youtube video or something else that will help me out here?

Exactly. The EZ-Lube system makes it easy to pack the area around the bearings with grease, preventing water intrusion when the axle is submersed, as in launching a boat. Doing so risks extruding grease past the seals, fouling the brake linings, but most boat trailers don't have brakes.

I repack wheel bearings once a year. Repacking yearly isn't really necessary, but Dexter recommends inspecting the bearings once a year, and of course the way to inspect them is to remove the grease.
You can ignore the EZ-Lube fittings when repacking the bearings; they don't get in the way. You can ignore them the rest of the time, too.

You should use the EZ-Lube system each time you submerge the RV.
That is, hopefully never.

I use the EZ lube. That's what they are there for.

Did you notice none of the hubs had brakes ?

Also, the video at the end says "most towable" axles.

The rubber plug is there so you can access the zerk without having to remove the cap. If you want remove the hub, then you have to remove the cap. The zerk does not get in the way of removing the castle nut.

No, not in the way. The EZ lube consists of a rubber plug in the hub "cap" and after you remove that there's a zerk in the end of the axle and it's not in the way.
