Flat Screen TV install question

As many of you know we have a 2008 FSC2800 weekend Warrior. I want to replace the analog TV with a new LED Flat screen unit. My TH uses a sidewall cabinet with a Lazy Susan style shelf to turn the TV to face the rear of the trailer for viewing. Currently it has a 19” TV installed on this shelf. I want to remove the Lazy Susan shelf and use a swing arm mount for the flat screen.

My question is simple, has anyone else done this in a similar cabinet set-up? How and where did you mount the swing arm and how large a TV were you able to fit in the space. Finally, how do you store the TV for travel (how is it positioned)? Any pictures would be greatly appreciated.

I know this has been discussed here before but I did check the archives without much success. Most were for MH or units that had central mounting cabinets.

Thanks in advance for your help,
Hap

Badhabt, that install looks nice. What year is your Raptor? Mine is '06 and came with a 19" TV mounted in the garage wall. I like your install because it has that frame in place. Looks good.

Thanks! Mines an '07. I have a friend who has an '06 and the only thing that had me from buying a Raptor then was of all things the placement of the TV on the garage wall. Then in Sept of '06 we went to the RV show and what do you know...for 2007 they moved the TV over the door! Ordered my Raptor right there. Been great!

This was the key to my mount. Easy to install, never worry. Solid locking mount.

Exactly!!!!! Isn't everyone a member on gd.com???? HAHAHA.

Does your mount swivel once it extends out? Like turn left and right and then tilt up and down?

Pivots 90* when it pulls out. My WW was built with the TV in the center. We rarely pull it out, only if someone in the rear beds wants TV. It's really a fixed tilt.

I Can't thank you folks enough. This site has provided me with campground recommendations, sights to see while travelling, tech assistance on many questions, and so much more.

This time I checked many RV sites to see how they were addressing my install problem and found that few if any RV's use side mounting swivel TV locations. Most either center mount or simply place the set directly across from the seating area.

Your support and pictures have provided me with the solutions I was looking for and the mounting equipment options I needed.

Thanks again,

Hap

You could also do something like I did by spanning over to the opposing wall. Actually not as much trouble as you might think. And, it is sturdy. My installation has been over the Alcan at least 3 times with no problems.

The TV is a 37" plasma. You could use the for TV space for more media equipment. That's what I did. Bigger stereo, separate recorder, etc.

Hap,

The opening you are dealing with is 26 inches wide, the TV I chose to fit that opening was a Vizio 26 inch LCD that measures in at 25 1/2 inches wide. The Earthquake straps came from Lowe's and they attach to the rear of the plywood and the LCD, you can see them hanging in the pictures.

Here is the mount I used.

Ken,

Again thank you for the help. As they say: "A picture is worth a 1000 words". That is certainly the case here.

I now have an idea of how I want to proceed. Your new wall for the mount was brilliant and answers the question I had. If I can ask one additional question, What size TV and what type of mount (brand name) are you using?

Take care,
Hap

Hap Hazard,

Here is the LCD TV in place. Fits nicely in the spot left by the 19 inch lazy susan.

Here is another picture with the TV in viewing postion.

Here is the mount from tvmount.com. Unlike most mounts that articulate this mount is very well made and sturdy.

Since the walls are not suitable to mount anything to I attached a piece of 3/4 inch plywood in between the 2 sides where the lazy susan was before using 3 inch wood screws.

While towing the TV is stowed pushed all the way back in with 2 nylon earthquake straps with quick disconnects.

Here is the LCD install in the master bedroom as well.
