Front Living Rooms

We are looking the Keystone Montana Front Living Room model 3711FL. It has a DRY pin weight of 2790 lbs at 13200 and CC of 3200lbs. I know for pass scale weights I add under 1500 lbs of cargo. I have F350 diesel SRW with payload of 3744.

If they pin weight percentage stays at or under 22 percent would give me a pin weight of 3234 which still gives me some margin. My question is that seems like a front living room would be lighter pin since there isn't much added weight in to the living room and also not much storage? Also, the basement in the front is the smallest I have seen on any 5er being less 30" wide so not much cargo there.

Does anyone has any input? Upgrading the truck isn't a options since a Crew Cab won't fit in my garage.

just to correct the size of the front basement storage area that I said was less than 30 inches wide. I was off I measured it today and it only 16 1/2 wide by 29 tall and 94 deep. Not much room and the benefit is not much room to pack stuff and so less weight forward.

Remember those brochure weights are for a Bare Bones empty RV. Our last 2 have had shipping weights 1 to 2 thousand over brochure weights before we put in a single paper plate. So the real world pin could go quite a few hundred above what's on paper.

Would have been interesting to know the pin weight before you loaded it to see how close it might have been to the posted empty pin weight.

I can tell you first hand the weight they show may not even be in the ballpark. Our new 3100RL showed pin weight at 2545 lbs. We had them add a washer and dryer so that ran it up some. When we had it loaded ready to camp it scaled at 3400 lbs on the pin. Big difference! It was not an issue as you can see because of what we are pulling it with. I would just be careful using the posted pin weight from Keystone.

The fridge is really close to be between the axles. Most of the large cabinets in the kitchen are over the rear axle. There is really no large storage forward of the axles and that includes the front basement area only be 30" wide. I have lots payload margin if I use the dry pin weight but as all know that loading a 5er can increase the pin weight and the percentage of weight on the pin. This 5er has 6 slides so I'm sure that lot of the weight. Got burnt once to the point of having to trade up from 2500HD to F350 and trying to avoid that again.

I will know next week when bring our current 5er up there and transfer all the stuff over to new 5er. I will stopping at the CAT scales on way home and will let everyone know that the pin weight is.

The refrigerator on that particular front living is located very near the axles and should have little, if any, impact on the pin weight. I think CWSWine has hit on the issue in that the 2016 offers a front window option, and disappearing TV, where as the 2015 does not. The 3711FL weight probably includes the front window and the 3710FL does not, accounting for the weight descrepancy.

I have not seen either of those trailers, but one possibility is where they put the axles. If you move the axles forward then more weight will rest on the axles and less on the pin, and moving the axles toward the rear will make it more pin heavy.

Please post your scaled weights. I would be interested in knowing how the web site compares to real scaled numbers.

I noticed the same thing and the dealer explained that the residential refrigerator came with extra battery and the inventor and accounted for most the weight but he could explain why so much of it went toward pin weight.
There are some other difference also. Tank sizes are different between the two models when you check the website. The dealer said that was error on the website but who knows.
Also, on the one we are looking at the front cap has window and the TV goes up and down and the ones in most pictures show sold cap and no window.
I will know next week since I bought it and we will hit the scales on the way home.

This is the one with the front window and understand they are kinda rare... Front Window

I would check further into that pin weight for this reason. I have also been looking at those. And looking at the Keystone/Montana new specs, it list the 3711FL pin weight at 2,790, but the 3710FL at only 2,530. As I understand it, the only difference is the 3711FL has the residential fridge where the 3710FL has the standard RV fridge. And further the weight difference between the two refrigerators is negligible. So why the extra 260#? The 3711FL has an inverter for the refrigerator and possibly an extra battery. But still ?????

And to further cloud the issue, the 2015 specs for the 3711FL list the pin weight as 2,565, only 35# heavier than the 3710FL. Why is the 2016 3711FL listed 235# heavier than the 2015 3711FL? The 2016 3710FL is listed as the same pin weight as the 2015 3710FL. Why did the 3711FL gain weight when the 3710FL did not?

Something just doesn't seem right about that 2,790 number. You may have more spare than it appears.

Have you weighed the truck ready to camp, to know your rear axle weight. What are your max tire ratings? I am thinking your RAWR is 7,280. If you stay fairly close to your payload rating, and under your RAWR, you should be fine.

The rear under bed storage, and rear wardroom, should keep pin wt at similar percentage.
