Grand Design Momentum

We are looking at purchasing the Grand Design 355TH. It has a GVWR of 18,000 lbs. There are only 2 axles at 8000 lbs. I am worried that the GVWR of this rig will be over weight for the 2 axles. Does anyone else have this rig and if so have you seen any issues with this?

I also have a Grand Design Momentum 385th which is longer and heavier than the 355th and have zero problems with dual axles. I have taken a few long trips and I am headed to Tennessee next week and have total confidence in the RV. Grand Design makes a great RV and you won't be disappointed. The customer service is second to none!!!! Good Luck and enjoy your Grand Design. We love ours!!!!!

While I do not own the 355, I do own the 385. The weights are right on for the axles with toys and loaded up, with a full tank of water/propane, etc. I took mine over the scales and weights were as follows: Steer Axle: 4,220lbs; Drive Axle: 7,640lbs; Trailer axles: 15,380lbs; Gross: 27,240lbs. Those weights are with full water, loaded with food/clothing etc for two weeks, and a Harley Dresser and a Honda Shadow.

I hope that helps. By the way, it handles better with the toys than without.

We just bought a 380TH and love it. I have no concern with the axle config, and think 2 axles from a tire wear standpoint may be better than 3. As stated, with the pin weight removed, we're well under the axle rating, so no worries at this point.

The hitch weight is 3400 lbs dry.

Even fully loaded, you will have plenty of GVW left to carry on the 2 axles.

Not uncommon since over 20% of rig's GVWR will be pin weight with the rest on the axles. I agree with you that it would be wiser to have axles rated to GVWR of TH for more safety margin, our TH axles exceed GVWR of our TH with stock tires rated to carry the same.

It's the main reason why I was able to get 3 years and 20K miles off of our stock china bomb tires before replacing with Maxxis tires for peace of mind. Just pulled off wheels this past Spring to repack bearings and they still look good after 7 years of heavy use. Happy camping in your Grand Design TH!!!

Most toy haulers have a GVWR more than the combined axles.

Remember, some of the weight rests on the pin, too.
