Heartland Vs Jayco

We have been looking at and comparing the Heartland Gateway 3650BH and the Jayco Northpoint 375BHFS. We like different things about both. They are pretty much the same floor plan with only little differences.
I have found that some of the Hearland dealers will get you a lot better deal. I went on line to get an extended service plan. The Jayco will cost about $90 more over a 6 year period then the Heartland. Is this because there are fewer claims on the Heartland?

I would not hesitate to buy/order another DRV. I would make sure every single item that needs replacing or fixing gets done BEFORE it gets paid for and leaves the dealers lot! This comes from someone that has gone thru one year owning a DRV going thru the whole warranty process.

Jim,

I guess I might. My complaint has more to do with the degradation in customer service since the Thor takeover.

Rusty, I'm in the market since my TH got flood damaged/totaled..Are you saying you wouldn't purchase a 2016-17' Heartland 365 5er or a Mobile Suites, (16-17' year), since Thor started manufacturing them? I owned a Thor manufactured 5er 16 years ago, but that was it, (I think it was a Dutchman?)

This would be important info for me..I was also thinking Jayco Designer, but am looking.I know that DRV & Hearland have real full timer 5er's, so no issue with 365 day's a year living in one..

Anyone else want to chime in?

I am a proud owner of a 2010 Jayco Designer. Between my Dad, Brother and I, we have had 6 different Jayco's. No problems with any of them over the last 15-20 years. I have read the Trailer Life Magazine now for about 6 years and read intently the section where owners discuss problems with their trailers. I don't remember ever seeing an issue with a Jayco but do see routinely issues cited with the Heartland trailers.

I'm on my second Heartland trailer and love my current Gateway 3650BH. It is very well constructed with it's laminated/aluminum joist floor and metal trussed roof. As far as I'm concerned the less wood in the framing of an RV the better.

I took a hard look at both the Jayco Designer and the Lanmark 365. After close inspection (new on the lot) the Heartland appeared to be of better craftmanship than did the Jayco. On one Designer, the crown moulding had fell off and was laying in the floor. I took a look and it was held on by only double sided tape, not even a cheap staple! A look underneath showed a horrendous job of installation of the underpinning and the floor vapor barrier. The vapor barrier looked like a gift wrap by a 3 year old. I turned and ran.

Have had a Jayco Designer and now a Heartland Landmark. Both are good companies and stand behind their product. Never had an issue with warranty, and Heartland is good to let a mobile tech come out if you get preapproval. Never had any major issues with either.

I would look at construction if I were you. One reason we didn't consider another Jayco was they went to wood floor trusses, 2" x 3". I think they went to a wood roof truss too. I wanted 6 sided aluminum construction, might not matter to you. Could have changed since we looked.

Both are good rigs and I think it is the one your like the best.

As a Heartland owner, I would select the Jayco for two reasons. Quality control and selection of components. Heartland cuts too many corners for the suspension, roof construction and other items. Jayco is no saint in that price range, but offers a tad better quality over-all IMHO. Heartland does offer good warranty response but it is not better than Jayco. In that they area they are the same.

As a Heartland/Thor/DRV owner my advice is JAYCO!!!

I've had great luck with my Heartland trailers. Great customer service, a wonderful owners forum with access to many owners manuals and information on the products but best of all is the owners club. Many club rallies all over the country and we have made lifelong friends there.

I have no experience with Heartland but I love my Jayco and unless I buy a vintage diesel pusher my next rig will be another Jayco.

My goal is buy a mid-80's Newell motor coach. I love the looks and simplicity of those things. If I don't as said before it'll be another Jayco.
