How to repaint fifth-wheel hitch plate?

Some paint has come off of my hitch plate, leaving a few square inches of exposed metal. My dealer didn't know what kind of paint would hold up. Has anyone tried to repaint their hitch plate, what kind of paint did you use, and did it hold up (or not)?

I use the flat black rust converter paint every year or two.

I use Rustoleum Professional Grade gloss black in the spray can. When the warning and capacity labels on the hitch get faded or unreadable, I just send a letter off to Cequent requesting replacements. They send a new set for free.

A can of spray paint is cheap even if you have to repaint every year. Can will last several years. Hitch probably was powder coated.
