Hi guys I am considering upgrading to a newer 5er and found this unit not to far away that seems very clean form the pictures but I have not seen it in person yet as its a six hour drive away.

I have asked the dealer for more info and pictures but just wondered if any members here own one or have owned one and can give me some pros and cons as to what to look for or stay away from with this model and make.

Its a 2008 Pilgrim 1500 Series 252 PRK-5

These are the specs the dealer listed

"half ton towable" and "1500 series" are just marketing terms and are usually inaccurate. Half tons can "tow" them easily (lots of power) but most can't "carry" them as they lack the payload and axle ratings to handle the pin weight.

Make sure you have the payload to handle the loaded pin weight, plus hitch weight, with enough left over for passengers and gear in the truck. A 6400lbs dry fiver could approach 8k loaded up. At the low average 20% of that on the pin would be 1600lbs. Add in another ~150lbs for the hitch in the bed and you're already over the payload of most 1/2 ton truck before adding passengers.

That listing is not far from me.

I knew a person that had a Pilgrim, about that same age. She really liked it, the only complaint was the slide needed to be open to access the bathroom. I'm not sure which model it was.

I would check the date code on the new tires, to verify new. The spare has no cover, if original, it would be toast.

The pics look good, hope it works out for you!

Thanks yes I have asked for a bunch of information and he has sent me more pictures and the stove, fridge and all the storage and cargo areas look spotless. But that could just be lipstick I know. I dont want anything too big as I can still tow this one with my F150 and yes the layout seems great. It has much newer equipment than my current 1997 so I guess Im looking for advise on what to check on these "newer" units ?

I know I will touch every inch of the roof, walls and floor in the unit to check for soft spots of course and check for old smell or anything like that.He also said their mechanic checked the breaks and springs and all were good and it has 4 new tires he said.

I'm not sure how to check pumps, or inverters or things of that nature so anyone that has any advise please chime in as well !

Looks very nice Robert. I don't have any info for you other than to say if you do buy it. Do a extensive and complete PDI. I made that mistake on mine and got caught up in the thrill of buying a new to me 5th wheel. Found multiple things wrong well after the fact. Dealer was 800 miles away so there wasn't much to be done. Good luck, John

PS. My Dad had a 25 ft TT with that floor plan. Very efficient trailer for two.:C
