Moving from Short bed to Long be tow vwhicle.

After 10 years of very successful towing our 5th wheel with a short bed truck with a Pullrite slider hitch we are getting a full bed and staying with Pullrite but not their slider it will be a Super 5th 20K.

Couple questions will my backing up be different with this setup? And please tell me that with a full bed there is much less chance of hitting the cab on a severe jack knife that with the short bed.

And information will be appreciated.

Merry Christmas!

And then there's always the Ford heated tailgate option (actually, I believe it was standard equipment on the 6.ohno's).... :S :W

I got two boxes and a B&W in a short bed. BTW Ron, I have a line on another V-Box like the rear one in my truck. Chris

Nice setup. I have the Patriot and am looking at getting a box similar to yours.
I have a Ram 2500 CC LB 4x4. I just look at it as a fun challenge for parking rather than a hindrance. I came from an F150 CC 5.5" box so I skipped the 6.5" box. I just park a little further away at Safeways or other big stores. Not really that big a deal. Biggest draw back is when backing in, in tight situations where the front of the truck is swinging around. I have the wife spot the front right since I can't see anything over there. Other than that I wouldn't say I'd never have a SB. I just like all the extra room between the 5th hitch and cab as well as the 8' bed length for trips to Home Depot.
If I were to go to a TT again and different truck I'd probably go SB.

I was lucky and found my box on CL for $300. New they are North of $1,000 but worth every penny.

HAHAHAHAHA!!!!!This is a bad thing right here! You are opening up a can of worms showing all that tool storage in a Ram. Wait till the Chevy and Ford guys see this! LOL!

True, but difficulty is a mind set. I daily drive my 2001 Quad Cab Ram Long Bed, I can park with ease either in a Parking lot or Parallel. I have also parallel parked it with a GN horse trailer attached. I think many that are worried about size and fit don't DD their TV, maybe once in a while, but have a small DD for mileage, so now they are not accustomed to the size.
I have a hard time parking DW's PT Cruiser Rag Top!! :h

Russ your Quad cab 8' box truck is 15" short than a CC long box. In and garage or Safeway lot, 15" is a lot. My new CC short box is shorter than your truck. Chris

Well the solution to that is backing in rather than diving in, easier and safer when leaving.

To me 15" would not matter that much. I can't get any truck other than a Ridgeline in our garage, and it is currently reserved for the Rag Top.

The point that some of us are trying to make is that it's really a preference thing. It really don't have anything to do with garage space. I can put to CC LB Dually s side by side in one of my garages and still have room for your wife's rag top. Some of us like to be able to pull into a parking spot that is 90* to the road and not have to back up to get a second shot at it to get straight or have to back in. Some of us don't mind leaving the tailgate down when hauling something 8' long. There is pluses and minuses to everything one just has to choose whats best for them and what they can deal with.

No one is saying you can't park a long wheel base truck in the same spot as a short wheel base truck we are just saying it is easier with a shorter truck. If I didn't need the extra seat I would have a regular cab short bead SRW diesel.

I don't carry a tool box in the truck. I carry everything I might need in the 5er. I do have a 40 gallon Aux tank in my truck and I also have the B&W hitch.

My FIL has a 37 gallon tank and a 12" tool box in front of his hitch in his short bed Chevy.........but it's a chevy so he needs to carry tools with him.:B

Talk about much ado about nothing. We've been towing 5th wheels with long bed duallies since 1996. Neither my wife nor I think twice about driving the truck wherever we need to go after we've unhitched from the 5th wheel. Of course, both of us drive when towing as well. And, yes, our truck is a crew cab long bed.
