Need advice on buying new converter

I am buying a new converter to replace the current one I have. The model I currently have is a WFCO WF-8930/50. I found that this is a little harder to get and also a very cheap converter, which may be why I had a problem with it anyway.

I have a 50 amp fifth wheel and I was hoping I could replace it with the WFCO WF8955PEC which is 55 amps. Am I making too much of this or should I be concerned that this is 55 amps when I am currently running with a 50 amp converter?

Thanks!

I doubt you have a 50 amp converter. The WF-8930/50 is the power center NOT the converter.

Converter needs to be a 9800 deck mount according to WFCO.

And as long as you need a deck mount I recommend IOTA, Progressive Dynamics, or PowerMax. Better to avoid the WFCO.

PowerMax

WFCO if you must

Do some research & see what the the proper charging rate is for your battery type & bank size. High capacity chargers destroy batterys & result in high water needs for wet cell types.

To set up the RV really nice, marinise it. Boats don't have cheap & nasty converters. They have inverter/chargers or simply smart 3 stage chargers.

Check your other thread! Maybe you just pulled out the emergency brake cable and the brakes are activated! Chris

I agree.

Ditch the WFCO converter and install a Progressive Dynamics converter. The larger size is better. It has a built in Charge Wizard to help maintain your batteries.

MrVan is right, no connection. Find out what output ampere rating the failed converter was, and get a new one rated at or above that rating.

Having a converter rated at higher amps is a good thing. Go for it.

Unless I am not understanding your question properly the 50 Amp service to the 5th wheel and the 55 Amp output are not related at all. The 55 Amp output is for charging the 12V DC battery. The 50 Amp Incoming service is 120 V AC. So with data provided I don't see a problem at all.
