That's not the fuel filter that goes onto the end of the fuel pump.
That filter is to go inline somewhere, but not at the fuel pump.
Power.cummins.com and look at the parts list specific for a genny.
There is a field note for the 5500 that says "*At fuel pump use 149-2341-01; At carb replace filter with A029S253 adaptor"

For those that don't know, Onan 5500 use to have 2 fuel filters. If yours still has the second filter delete it with Onan A029S253 adapter fitting.
1 fuel filter went inline with the fuel pump, the 2nd fuel filter went on the carb fuel inlet. As Lincster posted, the 2nd fuel filter has been deleted and replaced with a hose barb adapter.
The reason for this delete of the second fuel filter was because of fires from leaky fuel filters on the carb inlet. Onan found the vibrations at carb caused problems sealing the second fuel filter. And in reality, 2 filters are not needed.
If you brought in your Onan under warranty to an Onan service center, they insist to do this 2nd fuel filter delete no charge.
