Power Cord

I just came across a 30 amp pedestal to RV cord, free. Can or will this cord connect to my Cedar Creek 50 amp socket? My 2018 trailer is 150 miles away from here getting fixed again! Thinking of using this cord to hook up to a generator, maybe. Thanks, Dan

This should work

That will not work if the cord he has is a standard RV power cord with a 30 amp twist lock connector at the RV end. OP had not stated exactly what the free cord he obtained is.

If the free cord has the twist lock cut it off and splice a standard 30 amp pigtail ( about $6) to the cord. However, the adapter and the pigtail will cost the same as the 30 amp cord with standard connections.... around $30.

Won't work unless you change the twist lock end for attachment to rig.

Hi, didn't think far enough on the particulars !! Anyway the cord has a female 3 connector twist-lock on one end and a male 3 prong on the other end. Thought I mite use it with a gen-set !
Thanks Dan

30 amp cords are 120v ( one hot leg), while 50 amp cords are 240 (2 hot legs). If you rv is 50 amp twistlock, you'll have to buy another 50 amp female plug and bridge the two hot legs together, inside the plug. Another female twist lock will likely cost more than the 30A cord itself. I've done this but was lucky to find 50A twistlock on a clearance sale.

BB TX I have a 30 amp to 50 amp plug and I also have a 50 amp to a 30 amp plug. Bought both from Camping World.

The only 50/30 adapters I have seen (and I own) were to connect a standard 30 amp extension cord type female connector, not a 30 amp twist lock female connector like shown in the link I posted above.

OP does not state what kind of cord. For all we know at this time it has a 30 amp male on one and no cord body on the other.
Really need to wait and see what it is when he gets it.

If it is a 30 twist lock, he could remove it and install a 50 amp twist lock and jumper L1 and L2.

the twist lock female end of a 30 amp cord WILL NOT GO INTO A 50 TWIST LOCK male on the camper.

As usually with anything electrical....people are all over the place...LOL...and lets not talk about the lack of reading comprehension :S

If the power cord looks like this one, it will not connect directly to your 50 amp RV. And I have never seen an adapter to connect that type 30 amp cord to a 50 amp connection.

The simple answer is Yes. Check here and you'll find the adapters you need. https://www.etrailer.com/dept-pg-RV_Wiring-sf-Power_Adapter.aspx

I don't think there is an adapter for the trailer end so the answer is no. If you change the end(s) then you can make it into anything you want as long as you limit it to 30 amp.

You will need an adapter. Available at Walmart.
Gouing to many gensets you will need another adapter.
I would be getting a genset that puts out 120/240 and has a four wire connector for direct connection to an adapter straight to rig's cord.
