I know we always want to top off the water as close as we can to where we will land, but how far is too far to pull with 110 gal of water and a loaded TH?

For me, loaded with water I'm at +/- 15,500. My truck can pull 17,100 and the trailer max is 16,500.

Hey Buford, do you pull up the grade outta Bishop with full water tanks?

We have ressies at June lake this summer and ive never towed our hauler up that grade, i figure the RV resort has water.

we will be pulling over the 80 into NV. Found a RV park where for 4 bucks I can fill up in Reno then head up to black rock, but 1/2 of me wants to see how she does with 110 gals and toys pulling up the 80 all 250 miles. Thinking I'm going to do that and put a good load on the truck to see if there are any week spots

If we go somewhere with water I will fill just a small amount. If unsure, I fill the whole tank before leaving home. I want to get to my destination and enjoy, not driving around looking for a water source only to find out they they have stopped offering that service. The little bit I save on fuel is not going to make or break my weekend.

I wasn't going to trust the stock tires whether I was running heavy or not. I figured 2 years was more than enough to put my faith in them.

But how far is too far to pull with 110 gal of water and a loaded TH? Well that's your choice! So lets say you're going from your house to say Canada and you know that you not going to stop along they way and the RV camp has water you can fill up there as well. But you may want to keep a little water in it for the toilet just in case. As for me I'll fill up at my home and drive forty miles to my camp spot even though I can fill it their it's easy for me.

Ha! people who don't know how to drive a rig ... well you know what i want to say.

I've heard folks dump their new factory tires and upgrade when pulling close to the max. Mine came with ST235/80/16E and only have +/- 500 miles on them so far. Next weekend will be the first time I pull it loaded

Anytime we will be boondocking I always fill the freshwater to the max (150 Gallons). The tank is located over the axles and very secure. Never have had a problem.

We have travelled over 7000 miles with a full or nearly full tank during a loop we made around the US.

By the way, I don't see a decrease in MPG vs. travelling with the tank empty.

I did see a TT sitting along side of the highway once, the full and now leaking freshwater tank had smashed through the sidewall and was laying on the asphalt. That "Lifted" 4X4 pickup and TT had flown past us earlier on a curvy section of a mountain a pass. I'm guessing the hold down straps broke loose and allowed the tank to bang it's way through the sidewall.

I figure the tank is designed to be full so keep it full unless I know for sure I will have water then I keep ten gallons onboard.

We always tow with at least one of the two FW tanks full, and on a few occasions with both tanks full which will add 1000# to our total loaded weight. Can't be avoided if we want to camp/boondock in remote sites.

Most times we do the same thing and fill the second FW tank when we get closer to our final destination. Truck is close to max with toys and both FW tanks filled but it still gets us to where we need to go without much issue.

Main reason why we always carry at least one filled tank of FW is that we have run into situations where we have had to fill our FW tanks with water that was of suspect quality requiring sanitizing FW tanks when we got back home.
