Want to let you know that I missed a step in setting up at a rv park .I forgot to run the water at the hose bib hookup , and an earwig must have been getting a drink when I screwed on the hose .Well it impeded the water flow to the toilet , by ending up in the flush valve . So $37 bucks and about an hours fun latter . Be sure your water hose bib and your hose are clear of bugs

My DW witnessed a camper reach into his basement, toss his water and sewer hose out onto the dirt near the sewer drain, connect the water hose at both ends and turn the water on. A lot of questions followed but I passed and to this day still have a clear record.

I been doing that for eons also. But i do flush the hose before hooking to the city water.

Now back to the OP. What about the question of having the inlet screen installed in the city water hook up? :h

This thread makes me feel a whole lot less paranoid, as I have always ran some water thru the hose before connecting. Having a spray bottle of bleach to spray on the bib before connecting is a great idea.. for reasons I don't want to think about..

I always connect the hose to the bib, then run some water before connecting to our inlet. I want to flush the water left in the hose from last usage. Good thought about clearing the bib too.

I learned a little trick if you will... I carry a spritz bottle with bleach and water in it and I always 'spritz' off any stand pipe / faucet I fill my unit with, prior to hooking up my FW hose. You never know where the hands that unscrewed the last hose were....(and most likely don't want to know...

I have a removeable strainer on my city water inlet and on my FW fill hose.

I had ants come out our sink in our popup one time. Since then I always turn on the water for a bit before I connect my hose, then again after I connect the hose.

Yup, got a screen on the hose, one on the inlet, and water still needs to go through a whole house filter, before going anywhere else in the system. My fresh water tank flows to pump, then whole house filter also. I still let the water run first, to get the water as fresh as possible.

I like to hook my hose up and then flush my hose and the sites lines. Hold your hose in the upward position when you turn it off. Connect to your rig and your lines and hose is flushed and bleed of air.

Always good to fun a bit of water out before hooking up to our rig. Believe it or not, water does get stale sometimes, and it is good to let the pipes flush out any bugs, air, or crud that might have gotten in. It the campground is on city water, it lets fresh treated water in the pipes first. and if there is any grass, it usualy needsa a bit sprayed on it.

I purge the faucet, then I purge my hose, then I inspect the RV hose fitting, then spray bleach on all of those. Yes, I have screens as Darsben suggested.
