RV dealers parts ripoff

Ready to roll Wi. this morning and the living room slide would not come in. Just a steady buzzzzzz from the motor which indicated to me the motor was working. I took the motor assembly to the local dealer and to my surprise they had one in stock at the amazing price of $550 just for the part. The plastic gear inside the gear box was stripped. Don't you know the dealer doesn't have the gear. 10 year old 5er. The main gear is steel and the motor gear is steel but plastic gear between the both. Ebay and several sites had the plastic gear for $35 but I have to wait several days to get it. He!! yes I will wait for a savings of $500. Simple fix. About an hour or two labor to remove and install.

Please be aware that the dealer in question has access and has accounts with the manufacturer of the gear but refuses to order it because they can make more on the full assembly? TOTAL RIPOFF. GET IT

Not ripped off but heads up regarding Amazon Prime - I too am a fiscally conservative DIY. Ordered a wet bolt kit from Amazon noted as "Used" but in good condition and it qualified for Prime. Kit arrived quickly and guess what, the parts I got were in good condition but many of the key parts, such as the wet bolts, were missing. Apparently the Amazon inspector who received it back into stock had no list to check against. It is on its way back to Amazon and a "New" one has been ordered but what a PIA.

No rip and no attempt. He's in business and free to ask what he wants. We are free to shop elsewhere. Those are desperation prices. Like the OP, I'm handy, not desperate.

Licenses and permits
Employee benefits, health care, vacation

Live in a town that had two RV dealers 2 blocks from on another. One was a rip off and the other had fair prices. The rip off dealer went out of business. Then the fair dealer started the rip off dealer deal, even adds $1 per gallon of propane. Amazon prime is my RV dealer now.
