RV of the Year?

Just read that the Montana 3820FK has been named RV of the Year for 2016 by RV Business. First off...for all I know the could be some shill award but I'll assume it's legit. My immediate question is...why? I cannot see why anyone would want a kitchen on a separate level from the living space. Seems to me that these 2 areas are the most often used and shouldn't require the navigation of a set of stairs to move between them. Educate me, please. I'm not a 5er guy and just can't see the benefit of this floor plan at all. What am I missing?
May the Mods grant me the serenity to accept the opinions of those I cannot change,
the courage to offer input to those who are open to another way of thinking,
and the wisdom to shut up whenever I get too caught up in my own misconceived brilliance.

I gotta admit it is a cool Idea and some people may like it and there has been alot of talk on the Montana Forum about it and most of us are not to sure about it,the Front Glass is Cool and can be easily cleaned BUT a couple of problems is NO basement front storage space and not much counter space or Island or much of a Pantry which is not good when you are making the Kitchen a big deal in this floorplan and also kinda torn on the wrap around Dinette some of us would like to see a standard one with table and chairs,we DO like the 2 new front living Floorplans 3710FL and the 3711FL they just came out with with the same big front window when you put the TV Down..THAT"S NICE but we give Montana credit for thinking out of the box and we will see if it sells and Knowing Montana if it does not sell in a couple of years they will dump it and move on

I did look pretty close a the glass at the RV show and it appears automotive windshield glass, so you don't get your dual pane for that window anyway. Dual pane is an option on the Montana.

hahahaha - ya - only the bugs that can't fly 65 mph will stick :S

do you have to extend that front slideout to be able to access the kitchen? looks like it would block a bunch of the stairs.

RV of the year is kind of like the girl making it on the cover of Sports Illustrated, I would take any of the girls in that magazine. But someone somewhere liked that Girl a little better.

We sa this one at the Wichita RV show last week.I couldn't fit between the fridge and the edge of the table. Not a bad lay out,but not for us.

I thought the same thing when we looked then someone pointed out that there is a latch on the underside and the tabletop then swivels.

Like others I don't take much head to what has the best award. It's whatever floor plan that works best for your needs.

Didn't bother to look -
now guess I should......to see what level the "head" is on...:W

BTW - the "RV of the Year" - is the one *YOU* choose!

Short answer is, you don't. Two things can be done to reduce & make it easier to clean them off.

Keeping the speed below 65 seems to help reduce the numbers of them that go splat. Combine that with a couple coats of really good marine wax which makes those that do meet their end on your front cap easier to wash off.

I was in this same RV today at the Washington, DC RV show. It is a Front Kitchen 5th wheel.

There were a couple of unique new features. I don't know how great those features will prove to be in the long run... but they are unique (at least to me) and they show some level of creativity.

So my guess is the award is kind of an award for "somebody did something a little new and different over here and it seems like it might be good".

The new (at least to me) features were a rotating oval kitchen table that made it easier to get in the U shaped dinette, front windshield for the dinette, and a pivoting bathroom door hinge.

Not a lot of new things, but they did stand out to me simply because I had never seen them before.

My RV of the year is the one that I will spend something like 150 nights onboard this year. Don't much care what a bunch of magazine owners think.

The choice...personally ...)

But, THIS IS the 5th. wheel forum, where 5er's are the choice. The wife and I love the separation from one level to another, one of the many reasons we have a 5er.:)

That IS the beauty of our choices. We all do it different. (FYI, other than the hitch and the split level, 5ers and TT's do have more in common than what meets the eye!)

Having owned 10 or 11 TT's and 5 5th, wheels over the last 30 years or more, I do know the differences, You stated why you liked TT's better and I stated why I liked 5er's better, don't understand the problem,,,,,guess I should have put a smiley face after my comment:h

oh wait, I did:)

Sorry, didn't want to ruffle feathers, I was agreeing with you! 🙂
