size of hitch 16k or 20k

We are in the process of buying a 2018 Montana 12k dry with 4k carry.
should the 16k hitch be good or the next size up better.
Any feedback on the size of hitch for this 5th wheel?

You should mention your tow vehicle, and if you plan on using rails, puck system, or turn over ball mount type hitch. It will help determine what hitch will work best for you, such as the one pictured using the Ram puck system.

To answer your question, some 16K models may be adequate, an 18K is available, as well as the 20K. Some think it is best to buy a hitch to fit the trucks capability, rather than the FW you are buying. If you have a newer diesel DRW, you may want a 25K hitch.

Just get the one with a 16 or 20K rating or even one like this as long as it's a B&W you WILL be happy!!!

But, generally your next one will be even heavier and will also require a new and bigger hitch if you go minimum now.

Engineers have a proper safety margin designed into any hitch. By going with a hitch rated for 16k for a 16k trailer you are being responsible and safe.

My 5th wheel GVW is 16k as well I went with a Curt Q20 to give me an adequate safty margin.

Why give yourself minimal safety margin by using a 16k hitch on a 16k GVW FW? Go for the 20k hitch. Can't go wrong with any B&W hitch! :B
