Slide trouble still

I have a 2001 Cedar Creek 34 footer and pull it with a 2005 Dodge Cummins/6 speed long bed 4WD and recently the main room slide would continue to try to close the slide after it was all the way in. The motor would stop and then start working for about 3 seconds and then stop and then do it again. When I got back from my trip to Utah, I noticed the kitchen slide was doing the same thing then the bedroom slide did it also. My question: Have you had any trouble with your slides? I have lubricated the slides and replaced the circuit breakers and topped off the oil reservoir with no change. I am thinking that the switch has some crud in it as when the slides start going in they don't stop when the rocker switch is released. Maybe I should blow it out with compressed air. Funny that there isn't any trouble when the slides are coming out. Hmmmm.
Thanks in advance,

Well, I unmounted the solenoids from behind the pump and set them on top of the pump so I could see what was happening. It seems that in my rush to connect all the wires i cross-wired a blue and a green. I remedied the situation and hooked the wires up to the battery and lo and behold, no sparks so I pushed the out button and the slides go out and come back in like they are supposed to. I'm SO happy! Thanks for all your input and this site has proven to be invaluable. Now I'll have to mount the solenoids back where they belong unless I figure something better. It could happen.

Aha! Oh great, an aha! moment. No wonder I can't get a good night's sleep. I have two red wires going from the circuit breakers (2) to the positive terminal on the battery. When I touch one of the wires to the pos. terminal, the pump starts working but when I touch the other one to the terminal nothing happens. Shazam! Maybe there is a sensor on one of the slides, like the main room slide, that is sticking. Oh man, I'm getting closer all the time and Dr. Knowitall will be here tomorrow at 9am before our weekly ROMEO luncheon. You really have to be a Mr. Fixit type to own one of these or have an abundance of money to throw at your problem. I'm Mr. Fixit believe it or not. A real Texas boy born and bred.

Following your saga...feel for you!

I hope you figure it out before you replace the entire slide mechanism one part at a time!

Good luck!

I disconnected the switch outside AND the switch inside and the pump still runs when I connect the battery. This condition existed before I replaced any parts so I have a short somewhere. Brilliant eh?

Thanks for paying attention. Brand new solenoids and breakers. I'm at a loss. Looks like a job for my pal Dr. Knowitall. I now realize that when these parts are put on at the factory there aren't any walls to get in the way. Sigh...

But you said it did the same thing using both indoor and outdoor switch. That pretty much rules out the switch.

Well, the new solenoids are in and connected although I had to replace one wire that would not allow me to squeeze the solenoid behind the motor. After everything was connected I connected the battery and guess what? The same old thing. Next step is replacing the rocker (in & out) switch. What else could it be? Stay tuned folks, I'll keep throwing money at it until it's fixed. I think the word is BUMMER.

I removed both relays and didn't draw any blood. Good thing I took a few (6) pictures with my camera and downloaded them to iphoto so I can see exactly where all the wires go. I took them to Vegas Trailer and when I removed them from the bag, the man said "solenoids" and I said "yeah, the controllers for the slides, right?" He said that's what they were but they didn't have them there but to go to Johnny Walker's which I did. I have an appointment with Johnny's for Tuesday morning at 7:30 so I cancelled the appointment and ordered the solenoids/relays for 63 bucks a pop but taking my rig there on Tuesday costs $120 to take a look. I think you guys and I did a good job. I'll get the parts on Thursday. Have a great weekend.

My "new to me" 5th wheel would do the same thing. Bring the slide in or send it out and the motor would keep running. Had to play with the switch (either one) to get it to stop running. Finally replaced both relays and that solved the problem.

Hey! I took my trusty Nikon and thrust it above the motor so I could see behind it and there is a place where a few/many wires are connected to two different blocks. I have pictures and if these things look like relays I'll be sure to disconnect one at a time and see if anything happens like smoke, fire, etc. I'll try to post the pictures if it is possible and I would appreciate it if you would take a look. We'll see what happens.

If you can locate the relays just pull them and swap positions and see if the problem is still when coming in or maybe is while going out now.

Pull the relays off of the motor and go to a parts house and match them up. They will be a common relay. You have a relay sticking. If you want to just get the one that is sticking, pull one of them and see which function is still working. If the out is still working and the in is not then the relay in your hand is the in and the one on the pump is the out.

Monday has come and gone and I am no closer to solving my problem. Cedar Creek referred me to Lippert Industries and "Jeff" returned my call and was willing to walk me through a few tests I could do with my trusty test light. Unfortunately, we discovered that my mechanism was manufactured by POWER GEAR after I took some pictures of the motor and pump and e-mailed them to him. He gave me their number and they could not help me as they just deal in hydraulics. My next call was to Double Eagle RV and I am awaiting their call to make a reservation to take it in. Thanks for all of the input but maybe I will take one more look before I bite the bullet.

The Cedar Creek fellows are off until Monday so hopefully I'll get a call from them then. Wonder if I could follow the wires from the circuit breakers down to the inner depths of the rig. Life goes on. I still wouldn't know which relay was defective. There was a very good mobile RV guy here in Vegas but I guess it was hot enough here but he needed more humidity so he moved to Florida:-)
