Stopover half-way Dallas and Destin FL Via I-10 on way back

For any of you that have made the trip between these two cities, any suggestions for a good half-way stopping point about midway so we can break the trip into two days for a family of 4 (two kids 13/16) with a dog?

Gotta be big rig friendly, a pool would be a great thing for the family to relax while I get set up and fire up the grill. Any specific parks or cities would be great if you have any recommendations for us.

Realize it's a holiday weekend but hoping to find a place to stop for an overnight. Let me hear your suggestions!

Lake of the Pines just North of Jefferson Texas, just on the Texas Louisiana border, it is a Core Park and is really nice.

We came back i-10 to 610 to 45 which was 100x better. "A plus motel and RV Park" was really nice, too, for our stop-over. Remember, no more I-20! What a ride, lol

This is now an old posting. But from Dallas to Destin is a long, long way, and the interstates just don't go that way.

You go I-20 east thru Shreveport and Monroe to Jackson, MS. From Jackson, you go southeast to Hattiesburg where you pickup Hwy 98 into Mobile. There, you pickup I-10 over to Crestview, FL where you turn south through Eglin AFB into Destin area.

Unfortunately, you cannot easily fly there either.

That stretch across Louisiana, particularly through Shreveport, will make you piss blood the next day

Not doing I-20 for the way back-I-10 is a much better road. Hoping to hear any thoughts for "A Plus motel and RV Park" for the way back....

So, for the trip back Friday, how about "A plus motel and RV Park" in Sulphur LA? Anybody try that?

Well...y'all had some great suggestions. We ended up at Magnolia RV Park Resort just over the border in Mississippi but we are going to do something different on the way back and look at your suggestions to try out for the night. I-20 is a beating!

If you stay on I-20 then River Town Campground is just south of I-20. Large maintained sites.

Cajun Palms at exit 115 of I-10 on the north side is a great park.

We have stayed there numerous times and it is a resort.

Cajun Palms is awesome!! We stayed there right after New Years. It is a beautiful resort. We had no trouble getting in at that time of year but hear that it is very hard to get into during the summer months. Good luck, John

OK, one possibility: Take I-49 at Shreveport, then pick up I-10 at Layfayette to I-12 in Baton Rouge. There are two nice state parks just off I-12: Fairview Riverside at Madisonville and Fontainbleau just down the road at Madeville. I know there are some private parks in the same area but we have never stayed at them. In recent years we have favored Faiview Riverside.

It should be an easy trip from there on down to Destin.

We have also stayed at Buccaneer State Park near Waveland, MS.

EDIT TO ADD: If these are two far down the road for "half way" there are some good parks around Lafayette. I can't remember the names just now as we are on the road, but they should be easy to find.

I-20 through Louisiana is some of the worst maintained interstate highway I've driven - at least it was when we made that trip a couple of years ago. I'm surprised we didn't suffer kidney damage from all the pounding we took.

Sorry I can't offer a suggestion of where to stay. We overnighted in a Sam's parking lot in Hattiesburg.
