Storage

Storing fifth wheel outside in Michigan. Any ideas to storing my fifth wheel outside this year. My inside storage got booked too quick...I had a cover on it before and it got wind burn and needed a new roof. Another year I had a stink tank valve crack and had to replace floor and roof. Any ideas would help. Michigan can be brutal.

With the nasty fall we had and winter we're having we are very happy we decided to put our unit indoors this year too!

I had the same probem on a new TT I bought back in 2007 and I even wrapped it around the sides with streth wrap to keep the cover from billowing in the wind but it didn'the help. It burnished the roof and paint in numerous spots, hence I'll never use a cover again.

Thank you everyone. I winterized it and will leave it be. Stay tune for the spring!

At the end of the season: Wash the roof, wash/wax the rest of the exterior. Repeat in the Spring. Works great for me, no cover needed.

Winterize it and don't cover it. It will be fine outside if winterized properly.

I've used an ADCO cover quite a few times but the wind has always been a problem here on the farm. I've also just left it in the windy spot to let Mother Nature do her thing, and occasionally use a long handle foam snow brush to push or pull the snow off when it gets too deep.

Lately I head south.

I just put a Eagle Carport up for my dually. Course its not as big as one for an RV, but I'm very satisfied. This will keep the snow off, and of course in the Texas Panhandle hail. I agree total enclosure is the best.

Carport would be my suggestion, not a lot of money and keeps sun snow and ice off the RV.

Maybe you should consider building a garage/carport? You have put in a new floor and two new roofs on your RV.
I'm sure that gets expensive.

I use a cover on our 96 Southwind. I've never had any damage from the wind running the cover against the paint/roof.
And, we get a lot of winter wind in our area.

Did you try putting some type of padding at the rub areas and making sure the cover is snug?

I don't live in Michigan but cover mine with a Sunshield tarp (black on one side and silver on the other) and hold it down with several boat fenders half filled with sand. This I have done for its lifetime.
There might be a better way to hold it down. I'm thinking of tying a rope from a grommet on one side under the rig to a bunge cord to a grommet on the other side. The bunge cord keeps tension. Haven't tried it because the original idea works for me but it is next to my house so I can keep an eye on it.
We put the black side up in the winter and the silver side up in the summer.
One potential problem is if a grommet pulls out.
