True.

And, for others, spending significantly more for name-brand items can sometimes feel like conspicious consumption . . . crossing the line from practicality and substance to "bling".

5 sets of US Made GY's from "E" to "G" to "H" not even a flat. I will stick to what works well for me. MANY thousands of miles.

Nice to have choices, nice to spend my money frivolously.

And frivolous posts, LOL!

R U kin of "no longer here" Fast Eagle?..:W

He liked to buy lots of tires also.

I have had 3 blowouts and they all are expensive repairs and sometimes a dangerous situation. Goodyear G614 would be first choice and Maxxis next. Don't skimp on tires. I like the Goodyear but I am impressed with the Maxxis. The tire is really heavy duty.

Good choice, betting you'll do much better than 4 years.

Well., I chose the Sailuns S637, mounted, balanced and certificates all for $920.00. I figure if I get 4 years out of them I will be happy.

I put Sailun S637's on my 2015 5er before leaving for Alaska. Just the difference in heft between the original cheap tires and the Sailuns convinced me the change was good. Currently near Denali with no tire worries!

Not a landmark, but it is heavy.

I have about 12k on the tires, that's 3k/tire, which is (if I remember correctly) about the max load on load range E tires.

Very true. But sometimes you can get as good a product at a lower price.

The higher price of the GY seems to factor in the possibility of covering damage. I kind of look at that as an "extended warranty" and if you feel the product is good enough you may forego the extended warranty and spend less money.

Some products are proving their reliability and perhaps don't need the extended warranty as badly as others.

At any rate. I would stay away from GY

Why should I have a concern with a Goodyear G rated tire? The 614 is an LT tire.

Mark

Nope just ant Goodyear. Way over rated, over priced and just bad. There were all I use to buy, until I figured it out, they don't last.

If you are tailing their "G" or "H" tires as "just bad" please explain. Since early 07 they have a stellar reputation.

Have the GY's given you good service? That should answer your question.

Personally I would have no issue running either the GY "G" or "H" tires for 7 years. Do a little shopping, your $1,700 figure is on the high side. You should be able to get $300 for your tires on Craig's list.

Also remember GY is the only one that WILL pay for damages.
