tires for fiver

I own a 2004 hr savoy 29 I am pretty sure it takes 16 inch tires. my question is what is the best make of tire to use on a fifth wheel? I will be sure to get exact sizes before ordering, I was just curious which brand is the best.

I believe you made a good choice with Maxxis. They have a good reputation. And don't feel bad about the controversy as tires always starts some heated "discussions" here.

wow, I didn't mean to open a can of worms. after talking to about 6 companies, I opted for maxxis same size. hope it works out. the reps would have made more money if I had bought bigger wheels and tires, but assured me this was all I needed. I pulled 10,000 miles last year on carlile tires with no problems. I just replaced because of age and some dryrot. thanks everyone.

Correct me if I am wrong but don't you have to make sure your rims are rated for whatever up-graded tire you select? If the rims are rated for 65 and the tires 100 isn't this a problem? :h

Seem that the Goodyear Marathons are not highly recommended, but I'm on my second set on a 06 5ver that are E rated and never had a problem with either set.

Also I installed a set of C rated Marathons on my boat trailer that are really wearing great compared the Carisle tires I had on it.

Had a previous Savoy 32SKT that came with ST 225R15E Marathons. After 2 blow outs I went to Denmans made in Mexico. At that time they were highly regarded. After 2 failures on one trip I purchased 5 new 225/75R16 E BFGoorich Commercial T/A's. Delivered to a campground 300 miles from homes. Best price I found was Trailertiresand wheels. Delivered mounted, balanced and S.S. valve stems.

The XPS Ribs are excellent tires but are much more than you need on your rig. I currently have 20,000 miles on my BFG's with 2 trips to Arizona, Grand Canyon, another trip to California, Yellowstone and 2 trips to Delaware with many shorter trips in between.

Buy LT tires and save the money and damage caused by ST tires.

ok thanks everyone, I am a little more educated now, I always use Michelins on my truck, didn't know they didn't make them in my size trailer tire. I am beginning to understand but still have more research to do.

There is plenty of evidence to show that Maxxis brand tires are no better than any other Asian brand .
There are 20 reported Maxxis failures on this forum , and so far no Maxxis passenger car tire has been above the Lowest 25 % in ratings per Consumer Reports .
The best way to improve your chances of not having a tire failure is to increase the load weight rating in pounds as shown on the sidewall .
That is measurable .
To rely on brand for improvement is similar to going to a casino .
That is not measurable .

Brand does matter when you choose one that has a steel ply carcass!

If I were you, I'd change over to LT's and 16 wheels. I say this because I did on my Savoy. While Maxxis did not work well for me, they are still highly rated here and may be your best choice if not changing to LT's.

in my mind, when it comes to tires, most camper manufactures have a huge credibility issue .... most install the cheapest tires they can find and won't back them for a single day .... as part of the cost cutting, the ratings margin of OEM tires can be pretty small .... the when a tire fails, the camper manufactures refer to the tire manufacture for any assistance
