I see so many comments on tire that leave me more confused. I have ST235/80r16 tires. I pull a 2010 Open Range 337 RLS. GVWR 12,500. Can I get a recommendation.

One thing I want to throw into the mix is how much cooler my LT tires are compared to the ST's I've run in the past when doing several hours of highway driving.

That and the trailer does not seem to want to follow the ruts in the road nearly as much.

I'm extremely happy with my LT215/75R16 BFG Commercial T/A 2 tires, 2680lb rating is ideal for a unit like mine with a 10400lb GVWR (but the axles are 5000lb axles as per the tags on them?)

If you are talking about the Endurance it is right there in each size. Chris

OK, now I see it on the chart!

Looking at the Goodyear RV tire site, the Marathon is no longer listed. I think that Goodyear put a lot of work into the new Endurance ST tire and it could become the new gold standard of special trailer tires.

This site list the weights of these new Endurance tires.

https://www.tirerack.com/tires/tires.jsp?tireMake=Goodyear&tireModel=Endurance&sidewall=Blackwall&pa...

The ST235/80R16E Marathon weighed 35.4 pounds and the Enderance in this same size weights 40 pounds.

Also all off the Endurance sizes have a N speed rating of 87 MPH.

So what we have is a new ST that tire shops will not balk at installing like some dealers do when installing LT tires in place of ST OEM tires. I have long been a fan of all steel carcass tires on trailers(Ribs, R250's S637's), however not everyone is willing to work around dealers that are afraid to install LT's in place on ST tires.

Gee, Jim, no kidding! But so many run at max or max+ and complain when something goes amiss.

Question: If I switch to an LT tire, is the load range the same. My E rated tires are about 3402lbs ( I believe). If I have to jump up to a G rated tire, won't I need new rims because I thought I have seen that the G rated tires take more pressure. Maybe I am wrong, that is why I am asking.

You will have about 10,000# total on the axles, or 2,500# per tire +/- so a 235/85-16E will have a 3,042# rating.
I just took off a 12 year old set of LT tires on our 12,360# GVWR 5er, and replaced with the same size and rating LT's.

FWIW the rating for my wheel was stamped into the wheel in the back between the ribs. Good luck. ๐Ÿ™‚

Thank you for the info. I REALLY appreciate it. I heard the rating on the wheel is stamped on the back someplace and sometimes it is covered by the tire bead. With my luck, that is where I will find it.

Your "E" rated ST tires are rated at 3420 lbs., more or less, while "E" rated LT tires of the same size are rated at around 3040 lbs. Which may still work. Your trailer's GVWR is 12,000 lb., and you'll have around 2400 lb. pin weight, so that leaves around 10,600 lb. on the two axles. So if your trailer has 6,000 lb. axles you would be fine, if you have 7,000 lb. axles, you could still be okay, but won't match up with your axle ratings.

If you go to a "G" rated tire, and higher pressures, you will have to ascertain whether you wheels are rated to the higher pressures you can run with a "G" rated tire. My 2010 Fuzion came with "E" rated ST tires like yours, but it also had wheels rated for 110 psi. So it's possible that yours are too.

IMO "G" rated tires for you would be unnecessary. Provided that your weights are correct.

I looked but did not see where it is a ST tire?

I may try a set on my Boat Trailer. I don't trust the LoadKing tires on it.

Ron, looks like Chris recommended the GY Endurance which is an ST tire.

Thanks for all your help. I like the Goodyear tire and the fact that it's made in USA is great. Now the hunt for best price. I also plan on installing a TPMS. Any recommendations?
