Using the "Quote" feature

Folks,
I spend quite a bit of my valuable moderating time editing posts to remove unnecessary quotes. I do this to keep both myself and you from seeing the same posts over and over again when two members are discussing back and forth.

Quick question for those of you who just hit the "quote" button every time you answer a another member. Would you repeat, word for word, everything someone said to you as you talk with them in person? Of course you wouldn't and the same thing applies here. There is no reason at all to quote someone who posts immediately above you in the thread.
Naturally, if you are replying to someone who posted earlier in the thread, with several other replies in between or is on a different page, then the use of the quote is perfectly applied.

I would hope that those of you who do just hit the quote button when replying to a member post would take notice of my words above, and if you don't, be advised that your posts may disappear into never never land instead of being edited to fix the improper use of the quote feature.
Thank you.:)

Maybe you are doing too much Barney? I know we lost a few mods, couldn't admin offer the job to someone else? Edit to clarify... not to replace you, but to reduce your load of multiple forum sections.:)

I see lots of multiple quotes on TVs section, likely worse than here, but don't remember Marty ever complaining.

Since you are asking, I'll say YES, back off on the editing.

If the majority of you here on the 5th wheel forum want me to quit doing as I have been then let me know and I'll quit doing it. You are not breaking any forum rule by using the quote every time you post so I really have no legal grounds for doing deleting it. I do it to make the forum a better place to be.
Let me know what you want done.

No need for any long detailed explanations or essays. Just a simple yes or no will suffice.
NO = keep doing as I have been (editing).
YES = stop editing long posts with improper use of quote feature.
Keep in mind that I moderate four of the forums here and must read every single post.

Yes, to an extreme. It is no big deal to scroll past the huge repeated quote boxes but to delete them hurts the forum more than helps the forum.

I say that being one who does edit quotes to only the pertinent parts.

I’ve always wondered why it’s just the fifth wheel section that you can’t quote someone , it may occur on other sections , just never noticed. I agree scrolling thru isn’t a big deal I thought . Oh well !!! I have to agree a bit nit picky for a forum .

Bucky, I was going to say this thread has drawn more attention than most . It's not the forum it once was .

Can't remember ever quoting something someone says while I'm talking to them....of course, I also don't use a keyboard while talking to them either.

so, here is where I do use quotes as I only check the forum once a day and quite often, I am replying to a comment that is 5 or so posts before where my post would land (sometimes pages)

I agree if there are no comments since the post, I am replying to has been made then I would just type their name, but for one that is say on a previous page it is nice to see the quote so you can easily put the context of the reply together, without having to search and figure out what the reply is referencing. But as mentioned try to take all the unnecessary stuff out of the quote.

The 5 long paragraph quotes right after the original annoy me as well.
The slow death of this forum should have a lot of extra bandwidth available however.
I read it every day but it isn't what it used to be. Sadly.

But if we're going to be this nit-picky on posting etiquette, especially on a forum that I suspect heavily leans towards a demographic with less than stellar tech familiarity, under threat of post deletion without notice...then I suppose it may be time to find another forum to waste my time on.

I do appreciate the heads up though.

Nit-picky? I do it for the enjoyment of the members here, to keep a thread going smoothly, and be easy to read or follow and no other reason at all.

You may be very surprised at the "stellar tech familiarity" of many of our members.

"post deletion without notice"? What do you think that opening statement was all about? I would say that is notice enough.
