Thinking of buying another truck, but it's in NC and I'm in AZ. While I'd love to fly out and drive back, that may not be practical. What should I expect to pay to have it shipped out? GMC 2500HD 4x4 CC, 6.5' bed, stock. Thanks...

Thanks, all. I have quotes out the wazoo, ranging from about a grand to 2k+, all "insured and bonded". Mm-hmmm... For that money, I'll fly out on a buddy pass from my brother (Airbus driver) and drive back. ๐Ÿ™‚ Hell, if I work it right, I'll find one near Hershey in mid September. ๐Ÿ™‚

BTW, if any of you do this for yourselves, do NOT fill out an on-line form; call and speak to someone directly. The forms go to a common site and you'll get about 4x the number of quotes over the companies you actually visited.

As an old RV transporter and Hotshot hauler, now retired, I can tell you to NEVER use U-Ship for anything. Nine out of ten of those guys are not legal, nor are they insured in most cases. If they are they are using their personal auto insurance which will not cover your loss.

Those of us that ran legal paid thousand to our insurance company for commercial insurance, and more for our DOT certificates and our IFTA fuel permits and more. Those guys on U-Ship are a joke and I would not trust them to go across town. There are legal hot shot drivers out there that can do it for you. Your probably looking at $3.00 +/- a mile.

If you do find a driver, ask him for his DOT numbers and who his insurance carrier is and how much he is insured for. Should be at least a million dollars.

I got a reply back from Mercury Auto Transport, quote ref #2042032-XU to move your truck from NC to Phoenix for $1,316.98. "My name is Clarence Rene and I answer my phone calls, texts and emails. You can reach me at 954-239-1780 x15 /Can Text; 754-300-6227."

The site I used was supposed to provide five quotes within ten minutes. Clarence is the only one who replied, but it should give you the estimate you wanted.

I had a car delivered from San Francisco to NW Alabama and it was about $1,100.

Same truck had a Mercedes from San Francisco coming to within 2 miles of my house.

Have you tried TruckTrader.com and filtered it by miles from your zip code? Surely there is such a truck in closer proximity than North Carolina. I see them all the time on local car lots--new and used.

You could advertise for a driver in the city where the vehicle is located. Make sure you have insurance coverage. I have known several people that would deliver vehicles for a free ride to where ever they wanted to go. My in-laws did that after retirement. They always delivered Cadillacs. There may be a web site for this service.

Thanks, all. From what I'm seeing, from mainstream shippers (United Van, etc.), it looks about like $1/mile, give or take. Yes, low-ball quotes, and they could be legit, but who knows? For that price, I'd grab a flight and take a few days to drive home; see some fambily on the way, too. ๐Ÿ™‚

My experience is that you should expect to pay a minimum of $1500 and most likely will be closer to $2K.

$3 grand, if you want it this year and in one piece.
