Whats Your Real Weights? Truck and Trailer. The Real Deal

juzplanekrazy

I don’t know if it’s been done before or not but I was thinking about keeping a running list of real truck weights by year and type, and trailer weights by brand, size and what the total combined weight is of each guys rig. I was hoping the info would be a help for guys wondering about what the real weights are for a certain type of truck and to keep track of the more popular brand 5th wheel trailers. Another thing that will come out of it will be to see just how many guys really know what they are towing and if they know what their weight capacities are.
I’m sure it will take some time to compile a list and it will grow as guys add there info but I’m hoping it will help the newer guys in the long run to be directed back over to this thread in the future.
I’ll keep the TV lists to mainly the big 3 and from ¾ ton and up and I’ll try to keep the 5ers in a group by real GVW, length, and then manufacture. Any ideas are welcome as long as it makes things easier. And only real information can be given, so no guessing allowed. Only guys that have scaled there rigs or are totally certain of the weights.
Let’s see if I can keep the format real simple to type down and that will make it simpler for guys to refer back to and to keep track of.
Here we go……

Weighing just prior to a 3-week trip (2 weeks camping, 1 week at a beach house). I had just filled both propane tanks and was carrying my usual 1/3-1/2 tank of freshwater as well as carrying our usual/quite a bit of drinking water (2 cases of bottled water and 7.5 gallons in jugs).

Totals:
Truck Weight when Hitched Up:
5,300 + 6,660 + 75 = 12,035 pounds (GVWR: 12,300)

Pin Weight:
(5,300 + 6,600) - 9,420 = 2,540 pounds

Camper Weight:
12,280 + 2,540 = 14,820 pounds (GVWR: 15,825 pounds)

Pin Weight Percentage:
2,540 / 14,820 = 17%

Gross Combined Weight:
24,240 pounds (GCWR: 28,000 pounds)

I note you didn't mention your tire size & LR. Am I correct to assume ST235/85R16 LR-E ?
Also that you set to 80 psi cold each morning of travel.

and that the load split Axle to axle is 46/54 or better

and side to side on heavy axle is 46/54 or better?

Yes, you're correct on tire size + load range- ST235/85R16 LR-E. I started with Akuret tires, but a nail and a gnarly bubble changed that on us. I'm now running on Maxxis tires. I do air up to 80psi before leaving for a trip (I'm lax and don't do it each morning). However, according to the Maxxis Load/Tire Inflation table, I only need 65psi.

I didn't weigh the trailer axles separately this time, but I did earlier this year. They were almost identically split (then at 5820 and 5800). See here.

Unfortunately, I don't have side-to-side weights. None of the CAT scales that I've been to have had the room to do them. And, both have had truck traffic before and after me, so I didn't want to gum up the works. If I was even close to one of the RV Safety locations, I'd gladly get individual tire weights.

NOT a fair comparison between srw and drw as far as sway bar needed or not...

mine is srw and it wasn't NEEDED, just that I like it to handle corners better and from experience a sway bar makes your vehicle feel more 'planted'...
(but then you need to make sure everything is tied down better so it won't go sliding across the dash on those faster turns 🙂 )

I've done sway bars on sports cars AND trucks - just personal preference that I like the handling improvements !
