Hey everyone,

I am from southern california, chatsworth/simi valley area.

Now that summer is around the corner and being that we have already had a few 95+ degree days im looking for some ideas and places to camp for the summer that would be a little cooler then hanging out in the valley.

Im 26 years old so im trying to avoid the parks where there isnt a whole lot to do but read a book. i like to enjoy hiking, fishing, riding beautifull sceanery etc.

i was thinking of mammoth for 1 trip but my wife says" if we are spending the money on fuel to tow the trailer up there and to stay at the rv park then we might as well stay at a local restort".

i enjoy the mountains but have a hard time navigating the roads with a toy hauler.

Any input will be greatly appreciated. would have been nice to make early reservations for beach camping such as refugio or el capitan but those are always booked the season before.

Dirtclods; yes, to the toy hauler, 2006 gearbox fs26 hope to be buying a attitude 27 ft 5th wheel, as soon as my gearbox sells.

ie been up to kennedy meadows a few times, love the place but not sure about getting the toy hauler up or down. my truck is a 2006 duramax 4x4. my biggest worries with that haul is getting to a point where someone is going the oppisite direction.

the oppisite direction.

Mammoth is great! Maybe you could dry camp at one of the forest service camps to save money. Or free at Glass Creek?

Inyo NF campgrounds

There is lots of hiking and fishing and other outdoor recreation, not to mention scenery, in the area. Also shopping at restaurants. Or take the ski lift up the mountain and hike or mountain bike down. Or...I never run out of things to do.

I was about to suggest one of the campgrounds in the Truckee/Tahoe area but then read about your wife's comment about staying in a resort. Anyway, if you can convince your wife, the Truckee/Tahoe area is much cooler in the summer with lots of outdoor stuff to do.
