Hello,

We just moved up from OC and just got our 2015 toy hauler, quad and toys. Grew up going out to Glamis, but that's like an 11 hour haul now. My wife and I are new to the area with our 2 boys 5 and 7.

So far it looks like Sand Mountain in Fallon Nv is the closest dunes, but the boys are on a Razor and Pw80 so we are looking for places to go trail ride as well for a weekend.

Walker River Resort (www.wrr.com) is a must if you have 4/5 days minimum. I'm in Pollock Pines and it's less than 3 hours for me. It's in Nevada South of Gardenerville off Nv 208. They have a pool/spa, desert golf, horseshoes, Sporting Clays. BLM land to the North, Ludwig Copper Mine ruins is a trip, Toyabe Nat'l Forest to the South, Pine Grove ghost town a must. Ride right out of the resort.

I want to check that place out sometime. Have heard good things. Too hot for the next few months though. Might be a good place within a few hours for most to plan a NorCal meetup this Fall if there is any interest.

St. Anthony Dunes in Idaho are a little over 11 hrs from the Sacramento area. You might check them out for something new instead of going to Glamis next time.

If you love sand and have never been to Sand Mountain, you should check it out soon.
On another note, If no one has mentioned the Oregon Dunes yet, Its my favorite of all the Dunes that I have been to so far. Three seperate riding areas, Check out the Dune Fest and the Sand Fest
10 hours pulling a full trailer.

Thanks! I have heard of the Dunes up there. I'm thinkin though I may head south to Glamis if it's a 10 hr pull north. Glamis is about 11 south. I'm still looking for a 50 quad for the kids before I hit sand mountain.

There should be a Facebook group set up or something for NorCal folks with kids and Toys.... They have one in OC with about 80 in the group.

My brother & his wife & 2 kids, 6 & 7, want to join us for a camping/riding trip up to Sugar Pine or Big Reservoir in Foresthill sometime this summer. If you're looking for some trail riding & camping by a reservoir, this looks like a cool place to do it. They don't have hookups, but they have a dump station for sure at Big Reservoir - my brother & I checked out the camping & riding areas a couple weekends ago on his KLR685 & my F800GS. They have long back-in sites & a few pull-throughs. It's here: https://goo.gl/maps/Mndnr

What is it like at the crossing? I've seen it pretty bad and not sure if I want to take the new TH across that

the times i went this year and last year there was no water to cross. someone else told me they did something with the creek so it did not flow as heavy and also takes alot of rain which CA has not seen in awhile

X2 on Moon Rocks, fun and much closer. Somebody mentioned Fouts Springs and other than the last couple miles of road in being narrow for towing it's some serious fun for all levels of riders. It might be called Stonyford on Rider Planet.

Black Rock is just a big wide open salt flat. You ride for miles and feel like you've gone nowhere fast. Getting that Black Rock Playa dust of things is quite a chore and it gets on EVERYTHING. If your heading that way I would recommend Moon Rocks over BR for riding. It seems to be very popular spot.

Just checked out Moon Rocks! Way better! The wify likes it better too

We were going to run out on the playa against the hill side and find a good spot.

Elk Grove is more than 4hr from Pismo especially if pulling a trailer. More like 6hr driving a reasonable speed with a couple of short stops.
