They used to call that "war driving" and you could make one from a Pringles can! ๐Ÿ™‚ Sit outside someone's house and pick up their unsecured wifi for =days=. ๐Ÿ™‚

THanks you all for your response.

I have a feeling here that we have some terminology confusion. I "think" what the OP is asking for is simply a passive antenna that will help him better receive the existing wifi signal being broadcast by the campground owner.

I noticed a lot of you you have your preferences on wifi extenders. Please don't kill me here. Be careful on what you are referring as an extender. There are repeaters, there are clients and there are extenders. This device referred takes a 2.4 ghz signal and then rebroadcasts it with a modified SSID. You can resecure with different encriptions or make it an open hot spot. I am referring this device as it is the simplist and also is not intrusive in an RV Park. Also it will clone the MAC address so multiple device can attach as a lot of RV parks use Tango Internet and tie the MAC address of a devices and only allows 1 device to connect unless the RV park give you multple passes to their wireless infrastructure. Just my 2 cents, we all have our preferences on how to implement technology.

I would like to see comments on how the extenders work trying to receive through wooded areas?

In a new area I start with just the short antenna on the adapter in the hopes of finding a strong enough signal. The Yagi antenna is fairly directional and I just use it on the dash of the motorhome.
The Wi-Fi signal is vertically polarize so it's important to keep the stubs on the Yagi antenna up-and-down. For $30 this combination gives you the most bang for the buck... Guaranteed.

I have a Hawkins directional Wi-Fi antenna that plugs into a USB port. So with a 6' USB extension cord, I was able to put the antenna in a zip lock baggy, strap that to the refrigerator vent cover on the roof, and pick up another wi-fi hot spot about 800 feet away.

There are much better Wi-Fi antennas since my 2006 one came out.

Amazon.com will list many of them.

Good luck!

Ivylog,
Do you mount the antenna on the outside of RV, then run wire inside to the signal booster? Thanks in advance.

The cheapest good solution is this usb wifi adapter plus this yagi antenna for a total of $30. Ray I have bought over 15 of these for people in my RV park so they can get a better signal. I'm on one right now as otherwise it's only a two bar signal instead of the five it gets. Sometimes you can just use the stub antenna that comes with the high speed adapter.

Netgear Wifi Extender

.

"Gearitis" - no luck with the link you provided either..:(

Many Wifi Extenders on Netgear's site = no help for *your* favorite.

.

"Rayeckles" - the *Technology Corner* forum (here) has lots and lots more Technology "gurus"......as well as the info you are looking for.
(Use the search feature - limit your search to that forum)

BTW - be a good place for "Gearitis" to hang out for readers to benefit from his 15 years of Tech experience!
(However, he's gotta work on his linking "techniques")..:W

Go to Amazon.com and search for " Ubiquity Access Point " in the electronics section.

Ubiquity makes a lot of wireless stuff. Which are you referring to specifically?

WiFi Ranger is great.

Bear Extender is a cheaper alternative for individual laptops. Not as powerful, but works great in most parks.
