Disgruntled Millennials on the Road

I realize that this might seem like an odd post, but how many millennials are into the full time RV lifestyle?

My husband is in the process of being medically retired from the Air Force for a variety of health reasons and we are going to start RVing full time the day after he is formally retired. He is 36 and I am 31.

After a two year stint in South Korea we were sent to a base on the east coast. We bought a suburban house as an investment within a month of being stationed here. Yes, our house is nice but living in the suburbs just isn't for us. We don't know our neighbors, traffic is a mess, people are rude, our utility company is always losing our payment, my husband's PTSD goes crazy here and on and on. Basically, the whole lifestyle sucks!

We figured that the best option for us would be full time RVing. We have always wanted to see the country at our own pace. We were actually drooling over an MWR campground in Arkansas with cheap monthly rates. My mother-in-law keeps reminding us that we are only going to see older people in most campgrounds.

I figure that there has to be at least a few disgruntled millennials on the road. The whole living with less philosophy of my generation actually fits the full time RV lifestyle.

How many of my mid 20's to mid 30's peeps are at least looking to go on the road or are even on the road as I write this?

Take a look at Campendium, which often has links to the blogs of people who contribute campsite reviews. Many are youngish couples living/working on the road. https://www.campendium.com/ You have to sign up for a free account to see the full records.

Google "millennials on the road full time RV". Some odd stuff there, but some that appears that it would be helpful to you.

#vanlife? Maybe a bit too non-mainstream for you?

YouTube has many video blogs of young fulltimers

I read somewhere that the Escapees RV club now has a sub-group for younger members, but cannot locate that info right now.

Best of luck to you!

When we were FT we met very few Full Timers younger then US (50's)

Mostly ones that could continue working via Internet....IT, web design etc.

FEW had 'income' without having to continue working.

Military bases WITH CGs are an option for you...might need to call/confirm as they are also now available to 'civilians' and seem to be popular

Check out 'PassPort America'----$44/year
Get 50% off daily rates ar participating CGs......there are restrictions (number of days, which days etc) BUT 50% off is good deal. Stay couple days and it covers yearly fee

Also Fairgrounds & City Parks.....sometimes they have CG sites and reasonable prices

COE (Corp Of Engineers) CGs.......really nice/good places to stay

If you have adequate income.....no reason to NOT go FT and travel
Regardless of AGE......most folks are very friendly
We had great experiences with folks of all ages.
Just need to be open and approach with a SMILE

Best of Luck!

Thanks for your service (You and Husbands BOTH) !!
Is it time for your medication or mine?

You will see some younger people in military RV parks as they are "homesteaders" living in the RV park long term while on active duty. There are lots of weekend campers out there so you will meet up with a wide variety of campers. Keep in mind, military campgrounds usually have some sort of stay restrictions, many being 14 day limits.

The number is on the rise. That's why the "Tiny House" has become popular and the "Minimalist" movement.

A good website with lots of helpful info regarding full time RVing is:
www.rv-dreams.com

The folks who own the website were in their 40's when they left good corporate jobs, sold everything and headed out on the road in an RV 12 years ago. Read through the posts on the website and learn what they have learned. They show their expenses for every month since they began.

I sent you a private message regarding my truck for sale.

We see a LOT of people your age in RV parks when we travel. But most of those are families on vacation. Not many that age have the luxury to full time and travel.

Suspect the number is fairly low but on the rise.
We are in our mid 50's, traveling full time and moving often since Dec 2015. We've seen a fair number of adults in our age group but majority is older. Our experience has seen few young couples and families that are full time.
