Full timing in a class A gasser

Is anyone full timing in a gasser? It seems most are in a DP. I would like to hear how a gas class A is working for you. If you travel long distances in it. What year and model do you have. If there is anything you would do differently.

I am considering this for full or 3/4 time.

We will be Fulltiming next year in our 2003 Fleetwood Southwind 36ft with double slides. Just love the floor plan and layout (minus small bathroom that sucks but ....). Hubby wants an Entegra DP, but you don't always get everything you want (LOL). I wanna make sure that we are good to become long term FTers when we are out there first and foremost before expending a lot more dollars. This RV has done us proud for 13+ years on many extended trips of 5 to 9 weeks at a time so ........

Met lots of folks that have FT'd comfortably in Gas engines, we just get up some hills a little bit later than our DP cousins.

Have done it for 4 years so far. No complaints. I will shut things down and Motel it if temps hover around the single digits for days on end. I would be able to to handle it, but I am concerned more about moisture problems. Unless you wear a dehumidifier around your neck, you will get moisture problems at those temps. I had ice on my closet walls one time. The dehumidifier was plugging along up front, but I was sleeping in the back. It also gets to the point that cracking open a vent defeats the purpose when you are trying to heat the place. JMO

DH and I full time in a 33 ft gasser with 2 slides. It have enough space and cargo capacity for us. We tend to stay 2-4 weeks then move. For the amount we drive, the gasser works fine. It is noisier with less power than a DP and the ride is not as smooth. Of course, it cost less to purchase and maintain. Sonce we are parked far more than in motion, the gasser is working well enough. If we drove substantially more than we do, a DP probably would be worth the extra cost.

We're "almost fulltimers", spending 10 months or more each year living in our 2001 34' Class A gasser. We travel thousands of miles each year and find our current coach to be very comfortable for our needs. The only thing I can think of that we would have done differently was start a lot sooner than we did.

I agree - about 1/2 full-timers in a 5er, about 20% full-timers in a TT, about 10% in a DP, about 15% in a gas class A or C, the other 5% in either a TC or a Class B.

I've seen people in everything from a small truck camper to the biggest MH.

I see more gas Class A rigs than DP in my travels and while volunteer hosting.

Most of the people I meet across the country like the space and 'houseness' of a 5th wheel triple or four slide layout.

But some people like the traveling aspects more, and a MH has definite advantages.

We have been full-time for 5 1/2 years in our 2000 Monaco Monarch 36'2 slide gas motorhome. It works great for us - 2 people, 1 small dog and we are very comfortable.


And we only put about 3,000 miles per year as we have workamped, so have sat 4-6 months at each job. We will now be traveling more, so will put more miles on. Ford V-10 and we have no complaints and have had no problems.

Based on my 11 years of full timing I would not say that most full timers have DP motor homes. Some do but most have gas motor homes. About half of full timers have 5th wheels.
I full timed for a year in a 30 ft gasser with no slides and 10 years in a 35 ft gasser with two slides.
It worked fine. I was able to do my own oil and filter changes along with grease jobs.

We had a CCC of 2800 pounds and would like to have had 3500 pounds.

No problem to me... we had 3..
2004 Winnebago, purchased new
2009 Hurricane, purchased new
2011 Monaco Monarch, purchased used...

Good floor plans, 2 of us plus a spaniel.

All in 31' range and towed a car.

Would do nothing different.
