Fulltiming with the Senior Pass

We've been fulltiming for about a year and a half and my husband just got his Senior Pass. I'm particularly excited about this. We really prefer public campgrounds over private and I think this will open up a whole new aspect to this already great lifestyle.

I just wanted to start this thread to get some feedback on how other fulltimers use their pass. Any favorite campgrounds? Anybody use their pass almost exclusively-just going from one federal campground to the next? Any tips, suggestions or stories would be greatly appreciated!

We're going to be doing a quick trip back East soon through Kansas, Missouri, etc., taking mostly Route 50 and then 70 through Indiana, Ohio, etc so if you know of anything we should check out along that route that would be great, too.

Read the back of your America the Beautiful Senior Pass card.

NOT covered: camping, tours, special recreation permit fees, etc.

Camping fees are not covered???

We use it a lot, as when traveling, we make a serious attempt to stay in COE parks. Not only because of the pass, but also COE parks are often on the water. The layout and condition of most every COE park is outstanding.

The senior/disabled pass for RVing is the best thing since sliced bread.

Wow, thanks for the link, Mountain Momma. I missed that last year when we were on the road a couple of months.

Another COE campground I'd recommend is Riana Lake in Abiquiu, New Mexico (I learned about it here.) At half price with the Senior Pass, $8, it's a great deal. Clean, large sites, some with water & electric, bathrooms with showers. The best thing is the view of Cerro Pedernal, the mountain that Georgia O'Keeffe painted numerous times. You can tour her houses in Abiquiu and at Ghost Ranch, where the rock scenery is gorgeous. We were there in October - a lot of art gallery tours in that area every weekend.

In Ohio we have the Berlin Lake COE about 20 miles west of Youngstown just off of 224. Nice place with good facilities and a boat ramp though the water gets low as the summer ends as it dumps into other lakes. If in Fla, there is Oceola National Forest campground called Ocean Pond near Lake City. Very nice with a lake.

We are about to buy another. We have wives in rv glove box of RV and we'll go somewhere in another car and forget to bring it with us and have to pay full price.

Last time at Mt Rainier a younger guy at the gate said to wife (smiling) "If it wasn't so busy I'd ask for more ID, I don't see how you could get one of those."

Wife wanted to bring him along!!!

We live near a # of national monuments and national parks (Crater Lake). We use it every time we go in one and have, in fact, used it for camping. We camped at a BLM park near Moab and went to the Arches Natl. Park -- all for half price. Unfortunately, the govt. was shut down and we had to go to private campgrounds. We, too, prefer public campgrounds or boondocking over private rv parks.

We use ours whenever we can. Actually in three years we've saved over $1000 in park entry and camping fees. The pass is good at just about every Federal Park or campground; Nat'l Parks, Nat'l Monuments, BLM, COE etc. and we've used them all from FL to WA and everywhere in between. It's a great senior benefit.
