I'm curious what other Full-Timers have in regards to personal effects coverage amount. I currently have $20,000 coverage for personal effects. In addition to the usual stuff we have about $6,000 in bicycles that we carry with us.

We have $20,000 in contents and $10,000 on our storage locker. The 20k covers $5000 away from the trailer, tools in my truck, etc.

I need to see if that is repacement cost or not, forgot all about that.

If you've ever swapped rv's and had to move your stuff from one to the other, you would be amazed how much cr*p you or your better half has managed to store. I suspect there is a bunch of stuff you've forgotten about and a whole lot more that if it were gone you would not replace. Take an inventory and insure accordingly.

you'd be surprised on the contents value of your rV After our fire last year we had to give insurance company estimate of contents. We totaled up nearly 20,000.00 taking into account clothing electronics etc etc. tHat was just contents. Not the actual 5th wheel. Granted they didn't give us the total but after settling we were able to get a newer 5th wheel and stock it. We said we were Mitchell SD's new stimulus package.

You better carefully check the verbiage of your policy. I doubt the bicycles are covered for their full value without obtaining a rider. I bet the limit is about $500 per individual item loss without a rider.

What matters is what you have covered. Someone else may have $250,000 worth of jewelry they have a rider coverage and you have no jewelry. You may have photographic equipment worth $100,00 which you declared and are paying for coverage.

The point is you should cover whatever personal belongings you cannot replace if they should be lost without regard to anyone else's needs. Your situation is unique to you and should be decided without regard to anyone else.

But to answer your question, I carry a $5,000,000 umbrella liability policy and have a rider to cover a $30,000 watch, $12,500 photographic equipment, $750,000 antique documents, $75,000 misc. jewelry, and $75,000 undeclared personal property.

I hope this helps.

I'm not a full timer, but we just re-did our automobile / trailer insurance policies. We now have a separate rider for the contents of the trailer, that is not covered under our house insurance any longer. We're covered for $5000. I know we don't have $5000 worth of personal items in the camper, except when stocking up for a trip. Then I think we have $5000 worth of food packed away! (we eat well when we go camping!)
