87' Monaco Executive

On my 87' Monaco, 454 chevy in the rear, Facing the engine from the back, On the R/R corner, There is a canister that has about 3 qts of oil in it. Hoses from that go to the rear of some kind of belt driven, What I believe is a vacuum pump, and from there, to another can on the L/F corner which holds some sort of filter, Don't know if it has oil in it or not, And also hoses go from vacuum pump to the air cleaner and the oil sure does gum up the air filter. Does anyone have an idea what this set up might be? Maybe something to do with vacuum brakes, Which I have never heard of coming up on 60 yrs' old

Wolf, the oil on your air filter may be coming from the engine. Make sure the PCV is working and the vacuum line is connected. The PCV valve sucks the oil vapor from the engine to the intake system, and the engine is vented from the air cleaner box. If the PCV is non operational, blow-by will build pressure in the engine, and force the oil vapors into the air box.

Sounds like it is the AIR system, one of the early emissions controls methods used on late-80's vehicles. Would have been required on a CA motorhome.

Do you see the "vacuum pump" in this pic?



Have you looked at the emission hose routing sticker?

Oh, Fred, Also I cannot find a master cylinder any where on the Monaco.

Fred, Looks like oil to me, But in any case, Why would it go to the breather and oil up the air filter, No matter what kind of fluid it may be? I have no clue.

Hi,

1492 is a Moderator, and he moved your post to Class A RV's. He expects more interest there, and the question has more to do with Class A motorhomes, than questions about how a computer works.

RV.Net is not the same as I RV 2.

I have no idea what you are describing, but it might be a power steering unit? Sometimes the brakes are connected to the power steering unit, but I would rather be using the vacuum booster that tends to work so well with a gas engine. If the fluid is red or yellow, then it likely is power steering or with a hydroboost will do both power steering and power brakes.

The moderator (1492) moved it from "Technical Support" to the "Class A" forum, both of which are part of rv.net. You'll have better luck in the Class A forum finding someone familiar with the engine/MOHO to answer your question. Also, iRV2.net and rv.net are two separate forums.
