Anyone travel with an LVAD heart pump? Looks like we may be facing that and I'm curious if anyone had issues with it operating on inverter or generator?

A friend of mine was on a waiting list for a kidney. After about four years he got a call at midnight from the hospital where they were going to do the transplant and they told him he had to be at the hospital in four hours.

He lived in Fresno and the hospital is in San Francisco. If you don't show up they give the kidney to someone else so time is of the essence.

He got there right at 4am and got the kidney. Everything worked out great. No more dialysis!!

So my question to you is...how fast do you have to get to the hospital and how far away are you planning on traveling?

IMHO a person on a LVAD needs to stay home close to medical care.

your absolutely correct;;
Perhaps you folks could stay home for us, and watch the house! You'll have plenty of time from the couch to type unsolicited opinions.

I guess the suggestion was that if your that ill maybe you should not be driving a huge MH on a public highway endangering the other driving public;; I would also assume your DL would be invalid if your that ill
I know that I would not be driving a large DPMH anywhere if I was that ill; just my opinion others may vary
Boy you are a piece of work! You really know nothing about it do you.

If it makes you feel any better, I'm doing the driving, not her. But I'll be sure to run over you if I see you.

relax I thought you were the one needing it

sounds great;; I wonder why anyone would risk a heart transplant?
and if successful their only good for 10-15 year max
Perhaps someday you'll have to answer that question for yourself. Live a year, or live 10-15. Which will you choose?

Ya they have high reliability - the bigger concern is blood clots.

Ok sounds great I was wondering how you knew he would make it so I assumed it had happened already is why I asked

really? how many times has the pump failed and he made it in time?

Can not speak to a LAVD but can speak to a lithium ion batteries as I use an oxygen concentrator. We run the concentrator on the inverter on the road . At night we use a 2000 watt Honda generator to power things as it is quieter. We have run it over night using the on board 8K Power Tech generator but prefer the Honda. Go for it as life is for living. I ski with a bottle attached to a back pack.

Thanks for the info Wallynm. Carried Liquid O2 on my back while river fishing for a couple of years before I was able to get back off the O2. Took a while to convince the O2 carrier that I needed the taller LOX unit because I didn't plan on sticking around the house. It was sure nice to get back above 12,000 ft too! Hats off to you for staying active!
