The spring on my awning has sprung. I need to know how to rewind it and the tool I need. It is out and no way to get it to retract.

If one spring broke, chances are the other spring is not far behind. Order springs for each end and replace them both at the same time.

How did it get unwound.. IF the spring got unwound due to some error like leaving it out in a wind storm that broke the arm.. It is easy... But if it suddenly went SPRRROOONNNGGGGG without nothing outside the tube being broken... You gonna need a replacement.

Tools needed,, A small metal rod roughly 1/8" diamater but I can not give you the proper size without finding the proper rod.. A drill bit may work here.

And a wrench. You may also need vice grips.

I won't describe the procedure though as there is too great a chance of injury if you have to ask how to do it.

Check the manufacture's web site for details on how to properly set the tension and be careful. The springs have a lot of energy waiting to be released. Do it wrong and you could loose teeth.

Loss of spring tension usually happens when the spring breaks and will need to be replaced. Not a hard project for a Saturday.

You don't rewind the springs in your awning. You replace them. You can order new ones from the factory, generally through an RV dealer. Replacing the springs is a bit dangerous unless you are mechanically inclined.
