having just replaced the blade seal and cleaned up our china bowl Thetford Aurora (2 pedal) Im not sure i would want a more complicate Thetford Techma - all I've every heard about macerators is that they clog w/ nasty debris (hair/paper etc). I subscribe to the "less moving parts" means theres less to fail theory.
I just looked at a https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vQ5x4OURmNk on that Techma - holy cow that thing is complicated & has tons of narrowing passages and hoses...NO THANKS !
Ive never had an issue w/ our black tank - I thoroughly rinse it clean after every trip.
Id stick w/ Thetford their parts, seals & rebuild kits are plentiful !
while i had ours off the floor i took the opportunity to add the $23 riser kit
What was involved in adding that riser? Do you need to extend the piping? Does it just fit existing mounting or do you have to make any changes?

For those of you with bolt down holes not lining up, do you realize that the toilet flange is threaded into the top of the black tank therefor you can rotate or raise it as needed. I had to raise mine 1/4" when I put in laminate flooring.

One complaint I read was that it didn't hold and that was a easy DIY fix, other than these this toilet has good reviewstwo travelers wrote:Stick with Thetford and whatever you do avoid the Dometic 310/320 like the plague. They have a very real issue of leaking between the china and the plastic with no repair possibility. I have a 310 sitting in my out building now and it will never be installed in any RV that I will own. YMMV.
We're looking to replace the toilet in our motor home. Current one is a Thetford. I've looked on line at toilets and there seem to be many models and features to consider; some advertise water saver feature. Not looking for anything fancy like china, but want a good quality toilet. Any suggestions would be apreciated.

I just turned it to the correct position, laid it on top of the existing flange, used a generous amount of silicone and screwed it down. I might have had to pre drill through the original one for some of the screws to go through. I also used stainless #14 screws. It looks just like the top of any plastic toilet flange. Bought it at a True Value hardware store and btw ours is nearly 20" tall at the seat even with the low profile model, the platform in our MH is 6" I believe, but this was the toilet we wanted. The old toilet was really low compared to any of the new one I found, but its fine except for my 4 year old grandson who needs a little stool.Deano56 wrote:
i replaced our old Aqua Magic plastic toilet a couple months ago and went with the Dometic 311 low profile(same as 310 only bone color).I bought a 1/4" riser from the hardware store, turned it to the 3 and 9 o'clock position, siliconed and then screwed to down. Waited until the next day to set the toilet and all is fine. The gasket will compress a little more than usual but still seals. I know one person that heated up a spare toilet bolt enough to push the bolt through the flange around to the correct position. It's doable either way, the other mentioned toilets are fine but not for the budget minded IMO
It's too late for me, but can you explain this "riser" solution? Is it pretty much the same as their adapter kit? I got this one:
http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0050EIREW/ref=oh_details_o00_s00_i00?ie=UTF8&psc=1
It's made for converting from 4 bolt to 2 bolt, but that flange solves the 11 o'clock/5 o'clock problem I think (that one is bone, obviously they make a white one too). I haven't installed it yet (should be here Monday). I was dismayed to find that not only were my bolts in the wrong place, the flange was cemented. Upon removing the toilet it was evident it had been leaking for a long time. I, too, plan to silicone between the flange and the adapter (riser?). The kit comes with a base to account for the difference in height with the adapter (3/8" it says). I'm a little concerned because the toilet is already 18" high. It might not be comfortable for people of smaller stature at that height (my GF's feet don't touch the floor when she drives my truck, for example 🙂 ). But, it should look nice. Nearly all of the reviews are favorable on the Dometic 310/320.
