Can't figure it out

I have a new 2014 Thor Windsport with a TV located in a compartment outside. While at home, I was doing my monthly generator check so I while I was running the generator, I turned on the outside TV. After letting it run for a 1/2 hour or so I turned off the generator. The outside TV went off when the generator was turned off and now it will not come back on. All the outlets both inside and outside, lights, inside TV's and everything else is working fine. I have checked all the breakers and the fuses. I have tried to get to where the TV is plugged in from the inside (behind a bathroom cabinet) and have taken the tv loose from the outside and can't get to where the power for the TV is coming from. Hopefully the outside TV isn't fried-have never had any problems with it before. Any advice would be appreciated.

I will surely try to have everything off when I turn off the generator in the future.

THANKS TO ALL WHO HAVE REPlLIED!

Glad you discovered the inverter fix before you got too deep. Regarding WA8YXMs post....Brand new DP in 2006....had a factory power cord that had been converted to a Marinco hookup. Apparently several wires were loose and the resulting surge, blew out: TV, Microwave, power steps, converter, and always had transfer switch problems after that. Got Dealer finagled the extended warranty to cover it but it caused problems for the next 7 years. Then after replacing everything at least once, problems stopped. Then we traded it...

First: It is possible the outside TV is fried.. Generators can do strange things when they shut down under load.. (like voltage spikes) That said there are other suspects I'd go after first.

GFCI: Since power is being consumed OUTSIDE, the outlet it's coming from may be GFCI protected.. Should be in fact.. And said GFCI (not necessarly the actual outlet but one to which it is daisy chained) may have tripped.

Circuit breakers.. Both in your breaker panel indoors AND on the generator.

Transfer switch.

SCREW LOOSE.. Many RVers have a few screws loose.. One of the circuit breakers in this rig took a full two turns and then some before I even felt resistance,, That was NOT the worst (The worst was a neighbor, in one of the CG's I stay at.. Of the six screws inside his Marinco outlet (The part of the power cord that connects to the inlet on the side of your RV) all six were loose... L-1, L-2, Neutral, Safety ground and 2 cable clamp screws. Outlet fell right off the cord)
Home was where I park it. but alas the.

Glad you found the problem and the solution was so cheap. For what it is worth, both my generators manuals said clearly to never start or stop the generator with any load on, always disconnect everything first.

My guess, and it is only a guess, is that the reason for this is that at stop, the voltage will be momentarily unstable. Evidently the inverter saw out-of-range voltages and cut itself off. Given the possibility that such fluctuation in voltage might actually damage things, I believe I'd get in the habit of switching things off before I cut the genny. But that's just me following the instructions that came with my generators.

We always turn all 110 volt stuff off before turning the generator off. We do not turn 110 stuff on unfilled after about 5 minutes after starting the generator.

You might try running an extension cord to the tv but test the cord with a light or something before plugging the tv into the cord

Problem solved. I went inside the coach and turned off the inverter, turned it back on, and the outside TV works! To say the least, troubleshooting can be bear sometimes! Thanks for the replies.

I have checked all the GFI's in the motorhome- reset them and all are working. No reset button on the TV that I can find after pulling the TV out.

Is it on a GFI plug or circuit? Possibly a reset button on the TV? A fuse in the TV?

Have never heard of having to turn off a TV before turning off the generator. I hope that's not the case but I am baffled.

Are you suppose to turn it off before turning off the generator? If so probably did fry it. tvs are pretty touchy on the current some times.
