Carrier Rooftop AC

I have a Carrier Rooftop 13k ac unit that has giving me problems lately. I am aware the Carrier does not make these units anymore and mine is out of warranty. It is 7 years old and may be time to replace it. Every once in a while it will not turn on but the green light is blinking. If I shut everything off by disconnecting shore power and putting in the store mode and turn everything back on it will work. Is this something that is worth fixing or is it time to buy a new unit? I have 2 of these units but the one in the rear works fine.

I suspect you have lost coolant, the five blinks of the green light means "AC PROBLEM" I suspect AC means Air Conditioner not 120 volt (but either is possible) In my case the pipes rubbing against each other where they form kind of a "Trap" just outside the compressor had gotten religion (Became holy, or holed) and let all the magic coolant out.

ADVENT makes a bolt on replacement... You need to change one molex connector on the Carrier control board (They provide in the adapt-a-kit) and.. that's all.

(This assumes ducted rooftop no heat pump, if it's not ducted, or has a heat pump, disregard the advent comment) Oh, my 15,000 BTU advent draws the same 13.5 amps the 13,500 BTU carrier drew.

I have a few spare parts (Blower, fan squirl cage, cowell, but alas not what you need.

Contact Carrier direct they may not longer sell the unit but I've heard they still offer support. Great units.

I would have a tech that you trust( I know, hard to find) look at it. It may just be something as simple as a starting capacitor or one of the solenoids or control boards. It is just difficult to find someone that will actually troubleshoot an AC unit. Most just want to spend your money and replace the whole unit.
