If the batteries are connected in parallel then the two positive posts are directly connected to each other, so a connection to one positive is a connection to both. The same goes for the negative posts. So connecting to the positive and negative of just one battery will charge both.

5 volts? Maybe you have two 6 volt batteries wired in series, not two 12 volt wired in parallel. What are the markings on the batteries?

First determine what batteries you have. 12VDC will have six caps and 6VDC will have three. AGM batteries are maintenance free batteries so there will be no caps on them. Since you indicate fluids are full you have STD or wet cell batteries. Finally, look at the batteries and let us know if the positive of one connects to the positive or negative post of the other....a google search will give you lots of info on AGM and Gel....Dennis

Right now, my voltage meter shows around 5.00 on each battery.
