We are at the Pensacola Beach RV Resort and yesterday afternoon the fire trucks went by heading to the shopping center where Hooter's is located. We figured one of the restaurants had a kitchen fire. There was thick black smoke everywhere. Walked down that way to go to dinner and in the parking lot was a fairly new 32' or so class C on a Ford 450 and it was burned to the ground.
The fire department was still there and the police were all around. Got to talking to some folks who were there (there were 100's) and it turned out the rig was theirs. At least it was their rental. Said nobody was inside and they didn't have much in it as they rented it in TX and drove over for a wedding. They said they had lot's of family in town so they were in good shape. They didn't seem bothered about it at all. In fact the came out of a restaurant, drinks in hand and watched all the excitement.
It was obviously a hot fire. Most metal was melted and someone said the propane tank blew and spouted fire everywhere. I really felt bad for the several folks who were parked next to them as their cars were literally toast.
Nobody really had any idea how it started. Maybe there will be some news reports before too long. It took all of about 10 minutes from initial report until total melt down. I never knew how fast a RV could burn up.
When seconds count, the police are only minutes away.
